I wrote this song in early August (2013), following my umpteenth conversation with some fellow veterans about those yellow ribbon magnets everyone seems to have on their gas-guzzlers these days, and what, if anything, symbols like that seem to mean to the people who display them.

On his SoundCloud page, Lupe added the hashtag #HowardZinn, paying tribute to one of the most notable social activists of the 20th century. Zinn’s best known for writing A People’s History of the United States. He passed away in 2010, but his ideas still live strong in the hearts and minds of people he continues to inspire through his work.

As he says in a 2005 interview with The G Living Network, he answered the question of whether we can ever have a “just war”:

[…] The technology of warfare has reached a point where war is always the indiscriminate killing of huge numbers of people. And wars, at one time, were fought by armies; soldiers killed soldiers. Now, and we heard tonight Dr. Gino Strada […] tell us that the victims that he takes care of in the hospitals [..] are 90% civilians, 30% of them children. Guilty è stata registrata durante le session dell'album “The Hope Six Demolition Project” ma non è stata inclusa nell'album ed è stata pubblicata come singolo.

La canzone parla di droni, un soldato annoiato in una sala di controllo a migliaia di chilometri di distanza sta guidando un Reaper. Vede una piccola figura su uno schermo e deve decidere al momento una sentenza di vita e di morte: innocente o colpevole?
