One of the members of the Seattle rock band Presidents of the United States of America said with regard to "Caught by the Fuzz": "This song is exactly what being a teenager sounds like."

La canzone parla di un gruppo di astronauti che, imbarcati in una navicella per un viaggio ad una velocità prossima a quella della luce, ritornano sulla terra, e scoprono che mentre per loro è trascorso un solo anno, per i terrestri sono passati cento anni a causa dell'effetto della dilatazione temporale previsto dalla teoria della relatività di Einstein. Tutte le persone che conoscevano sono ormai morte.

La canzone è stata scritta e cantata da Brian May con una melodia e un arrangiamento da classica folk song ed è una delle poche canzoni dei Queen in cui la voce di Freddie Mercury non è protagonista ma si limita ai cori nel ritornello.

Per il chitarrista dei Queen le stelle non sono solamente una passione. Si è infatti laureato in fisica con lode, e ha conseguito nel 2007 il dottorato in astrofisica che aveva abbandonato per intraprendere la carriera musicale.

Forse il nome di questo piccolo albergo della cittadina veneta è una sorta di presagio. Newman’s point was unmistakable: he was singing racist and demeaning songs in order to perturb his listeners. It worked. Everyone who listened to “Underneath the Harlem Moon” got uncomfortable. As Greil Marcus wrote in Mystery Train, “Here [Newman] was, a struggling singer whose only possible audience would be urbane, liberal rock ’n’ roll fans, and he was unveiling . . . the charms of racism.” (Newman would go on to write many even richer evocations of American racism, among them “Sail Away,” “Rednecks,” and “Short People.”)

"Maus" di Art Spiegelman e' un romanzo a funetti basato sui racconti del padre dell'autore, sopravvissuto ai campi di concentramento.
Nel libro i personaggi sono rappresentati non in forma umana, ma in quella animale, che caratterizza la loro posizione sociale: per esempio, i protagonisti, gli ebrei perseguitati, sono rappresentati da dei topi e sono contrapposti ai nazisti dipinti come gatti.

"Rats" e' una canzone nella quale la razza umana viene comparata ai topi, considerati da Eddie in un intervista "a hell of a lot more admirable". Ed e' dedicata agli ultimi, nella scala sociale, che hanno pero' il senso della comunità.
Infatti il topo e' disposto anche a sacrificare la sua vita per il bene della colonia, come fanno molti topi durante la derattizzazione delle navi, in cui gli elementi deboli, vecchi o malati, si sacrificano andando a morire nei punti di accesso... (continua)

Freddie Gray, il ragazzo nero di 25 anni morto una settimana dopo essere stato arrestato a Baltimora lo scorso aprile [2015], ha subìto un unico colpo molto forte al collo e alla spina dorsale, molto probabilmente causato dalla brusca frenata del blindato della polizia in cui era stato caricato. Lo rivela l’autopsia sul corpo del ragazzo, di cui il Baltimore Sun ha ottenuto una copia. L’ufficio di medicina legale dello stato del Maryland ha concluso che la morte di Gray non può essere catalogata come un incidente, ma si è trattato di “omicidio” perché gli agenti non hanno seguito le procedure di sicurezza, compiendo “azioni di omissione”.

Anche se Gray è stato caricato sul blindato sdraiato a pancia in giù, i medici che hanno fatto l’autopsia presumono che si sia alzato in piedi e poi abbia sbattuto contro una parete a causa di un brusco cambio di direzione. Il ragazzo... (continua)

Frontman Gavin Rossdale was inspired to pen the politically charged song after seeing the violence that erupted during an August 2017 white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia:



This wasn't on the original release of Black And White Rainbows. When Bush re-formed in 2010 after their 2002 breakup, they signed with Zuma Rock Records, which issued the album in March 2017. In October, the band signed with BMG in a deal that included Rossdale's publishing. They released a remastered version of the album, with "This Is War" added to the tracklist.

The song Unfortunates by State Radio, released in their album Year of the crow is about the West Memphis Three, three teenagers (Damien Echols, Jesse Misskelley and Jason Baldwin) that were tried for the murder of three boys and convicted.

About 18 years later they were released as DNA evidence showed signs of their innocence.
