Now there are thousands of them in several different countries in Europe. They are placed in front of the homes and workshops from which people were taken to be sent to concentration camps, primarily. Syntactically, Trump is telling Americans that the United States of America is not great. A country can only become something again when it is currently not that something it seeks to recapture – in this case, that something is greatness. They are both horrible for the working class around the world, and great for the capitalist class, which is how these trade deals work. Which is why real progressives always oppose them, and corporate lobbyists love them. Is your local Congressperson supporting the deal? That is an indication that he or she is a corporate thug. If the corporate thug pretends to be progressive, support of these trade deals is a clear indication that they are bullshitting in order to get votes. They’re clearly more interested in those envelopes stuffed with cash they’re getting from the pharmaceutical companies.

Mordechai Vanunu (in ebraico: מרדכי ואנונו, anche noto con il nome di battesimo cristiano John Crossman; Marrakech, 13 ottobre 1954) è un ex tecnico nucleare israeliano. Nato in Marocco da una famiglia ebraica ortodossa sefardita della città di Marrakech, emigrò in Israele con i parenti nel 1963. Nel 1986 rivelò al Sunday Times l'esistenza di un piano segreto di armamento nucleare da parte dello Stato di Israele, che all'epoca avrebbe posseduto 220 testate nucleari, tra 200 bombe atomiche più il materiale sufficiente per realizzare 20 bombe all'idrogeno. Song for Ginger Goodwin
Penso che la storia di Albert "Ginger" Goodwin meriti qualcosa di più di un breve copia/incolla.
Immigrato dal Yorkshire, dove già lavorava nelle miniere di carbone, Ginger Goodwin finì nelle miniere del Cumberland canadese, vicino a Vancouver. Appena arrivato, disgustato dalle pessime condizioni di lavoro, si diede subito da fare per organizzare i suoi compagni e nel 1912 fu certamente tra coloro che parteciparono al lungo sciopero dei minatori del Cumberland durato fino all’inizio della guerra in Europa, nel 1914. Perso il lavoro per via del suo impegno sindacale, Ginger Goodwin si trasferì a Trail, British Columbia, dove fu assunto come addetto agli altoforni. Ben presto lì divenne un esponente sindacale e dirigente del Partito socialista.
Quando gli USA entrarono in guerra nel 1917, Ginger Goodwin si proclamò obiettore di coscienza, perché riteneva che la classe operaia non dovesse... (continua)

Apprendo ora che Loukanikos, il "riot dog" greco, è morto nei giorni scorsi.
Pare che avesse una decina d'anni, che non sia mai mancato ad una manifestazione e che causa della morte siano il CS e tutti gli altri gas che l'indomito bastardo è stato costretto a respirare, lui che non ha mai nemmeno potuto usare una maschera e neppure un fazzoletto...

Loukanikos sulla Luna
Se stasera si guarderà la Luna, ci sarà anche Loukanikos. Ha passato, come diceva non mi ricordo quale essere umano, il suo quarto d'ora di notorietà, e qualcuno magari se ne ricorderà pure: il cane delle manifestazioni greche, sempre in prima fila, chiamato in un primo tempo Kanellos (o forse era un altro cane, quando c'entrano mezze leggende anche i nomi fluiscono), che vuol dire "valoroso" in greco, e poi riportato ad un ben più prosaico e canino nome (Loukanikos vuol dire "salsiccia", come la lugànega, nel quale si tramanda il nome della Lucania, antichissima terra d'insaccati di maiale). Ma quel cane c'era per davvero, in mezzo ai riots di questi anni a Atene; leggenda sia, ma stavolta è un mito con tanto di fotografie e di lacrimogeni polizieschi, soprattutto. Perché pare proprio che Loukanikos, che aveva una decina d'anni (età più che rispettabile per un cane)... (continua)

John Brown (Torrington, 9 maggio 1800 – Charles Town, 2 dicembre 1859) è stato un attivista statunitense, simbolo della causa antischiavista cui si dedicò anche mediante la lotta armata e per cui pagò con la vita. Egli fu infatti impiccato in seguito al fallito assalto all'arsenale federale di Harper's Ferry con le cui armi voleva dare il via ad una rivolta grazie al sostegno degli schiavi nelle contee occidentali dello Stato della Virginia.
