Children are murdered daily in Palestine, but genocide is like that. It is appalling that so many people in the comfortable west seem not to care. While we might be frustrated by our impotence on this issue, surely our consciences demand that we not remain silent.
This song describes the horror of a young boy appearing on our screens stuffing his mouth with sand. The sand was a substitute for the flour which has vanished from Gaza.
Israel closed the northern border to genuine aid from the UN and relief agencies, while hypocritically instituting a so-called humanitarian organisation with US support. There was no safety at these distribution points, which were nothing more than yet another arm of Israel’s genocidal campaign, where aid seekers became easy targets and hundreds were slaughtered.

Lakota rapper and activist Frank Waln wrote this scathing satire of the song “What Made The Red Man Red?” from Disney’s 1953 film Peter Pan to criticize its broadly stereotypical portrayal of Native American tribes. Using audio samples from the original song, he lambasts the United States for its legacy of colonialism and genocide in what was originally Native territory as well as Hollywood’s whitewashing of the harsh history of U.S.-Native relationships.
The song was first released on Dec. 29, 2015, on KOYA FM, the local radio station for the Sicangu Oyate (Oyate is the Lakota word for nation). Mi sono artisticamente innamorata di lui durante un festival a Napoli. Fin dalla prima volta che ci siamo incontrati c'è stata subito intesa tra noi, perché anche se da posti lontani, veniamo dalla stessa cultura. Io avevo già ultimato l'album, ma gliel’ho inviato comunque chiedendogli se volesse collaborare in qualche modo. Abdullah ha scritto una poesia sul senso della guerra – nasce come poeta – e sull'origine dei conflitti umani. Infatti, il brano è una riflessione apolitica, ma più storica e filosofica. Citiamo anche i saraceni, per esempio. Tutti siamo legati dallo stesso sangue sanguinario e forse è per questo che siamo destinati alla guerra.

Gaza,vite sfollate
Anche questa sera ho cercato di cucinare con cura, con il rispetto che meritano i prodotti che mi nutrono, e con amore per la compagna che con me li consumerà e dirà:che buono. Lo dirà perché ha passato un mese in ospedale mangiando e commentando:che schifo.

Many of Waln's songs tackle Native American social issues. In this particular song, introduced and concluded by spoken words by John Trudell, he put's the social issues in the larger perspective of a perpetuation of the historical "Indian Wars" in a still lasting "white war" against the identities, ways of life of the native people. As oppression has many ways, it needs a lot on both side to find a way out. Resistance on one side and apologies on the other won't do it alone. It needs deconstruction of the minds and decolonization of the memories. And the key is sovereignty. And the misunderstandings about it.

Un aspetto poco considerato sono i vostri testi e le liriche di Toni, versi liberi spesso endecasillabi (India, La fabbricante dangeli, Gioco di bimba, altre ancora) ma anche settenari, ottonari, decasillabi, testi ermetici che diventano comprensibili con una chiave di lettura, in un contesto musicale estraniante.. Ecco forse questa è stata vostra grandezza più sottovalutata

Ne propongo una.
Due ragazzi (un giovane uomo e una giovane donna, anche il canto è a due voci) che per motivi diversi entrano in quel tritacarne - e tritacoscienze – chiamato guerra. Siamo in Ucraina, oggi, o in altri luoghi e altre epoche? I due sono dalla stessa parte? Su fronti avversi? E chi lo sa, in fondo non ha molta importanza saperlo.

Loveless C.C.C. - Herman Beemans - 1937
This is another song about the Civilian Conservation Corp (see “CCC Blues” for additional notes). The origins of this song are unclear but it is set to the tune of “Careless Love” and reflects the hard work and homesickness the young men experienced. It seems to have been composed by a camper at the Broken Arrow camp in Oklahoma. It is sung here by Tommy Rhoden who learned it from a fellow campers ‘songbook.’ The camper was one Herman Beemans. It was quite common in the day for people to keep handwritten ‘songbooks’ or ‘ballad books’ with lyrics to their favorite songs.
