(1939/1942)

Lyrics & Music by Algy Ward
Album: Still at War
The New Wave of British Heavy Metal era is considered one of the most controversial movements in the whole history of metal. One of the most influential formations which emerged in the beginnings of the N.W. .O. .B. .H. .M. madness was TANK - a fierce, ambitious young band, taking all the best that was in punk and metal to a higher level. In 2002 Tank released their latest album, entitled "Still at War", which was a truly memorable comeback for the band. Produced by Algy Ward himself, the album featured a set of classic, powerful tracks, which instantly won the hearts of die-hard fans, who often compared it to the band's best effort to date, "This Means War". Members of Tank themselves seem to be satisfied with this record as well. Musically, the album was indeed a comeback to the roots of N.W. .O. .B. .H. .M. and remains one of... (continua)

Who Killed Joey?
words & music

August Echo Music / BMI
This song was written about a high school boy who was recruited into the military but never made it out of Iraq so he could go to college. It is dedicated to
veterans and the families
of soldiers who dare to speak
truth to power.
Gandhi once said "the first casualty of war is truth.”
"Who Killed Joey" was released on the CD Rumors of Peace on 11-11-11.

Hello Sailor
This is one of the best anti-war songs ever. Mixing in the nursey rhyme, "I'm a Little Teapot" is genius. She compares the situation to three main things: a dictator, a prostitute, and a liberal. Her theme, "Free love is whole lot of bullshit" sounds pro-war, but the free love would actually be directed towards the Sailor. This theme resonates in the three analogies very well. Dictators never openly give love or kindness, prostitutes always charge for their "love", and liberals are constantly condemning behavior. It's not anti-liberal either. It just shows how complicated the situation really is.

Shane
Girly Sound (self-produced cassettes) - 1991
Reworked in Whip-Smart (1994)
Reworked in Whip-Smart (1994)
The narrator and her lover or potential lover are talking about the war. Probably the Gulf War, seeing as this is a girlysound production. Anyway, they seem to be alone in the night. Very important, seeing as this makes their understanding of the gravity of the war so much more important.
Anyway, they talk, and she gives him advice to be careful. She's worried about Shane. He says, "I know the people who can get keep me out of htis." She doesn't care. She just wants him to do what he wants.
The line "don't let em make you do, what you can't live with tonight in bed, with me, sleeping." Is really significant. She loves him, but doesn't want to force him into a relationship or sexy time. hee hee
Anyway, very powerful. A love song. Anti-war song. Song about lonliness and the ignorance of the general populations. It's amazing.

(continua)
