According to Bernard Sumner, "Love Vigilantes" is one of the few songs for which he started out wanting to tell a story rather than his usual method of listening to a newly composed piece and writing lyrics to match the mood of the music. Having "decided to write a Redneck song", Sumner's lyrics tell a rather "tongue-in-cheek" tale of a soldier returning home from Vietnam only to find that his wife had received a telegram informing her that he had died.[4] Sumner further relates that the ending is open to interpretation. Either the soldier had actually died and returns as a ghost or the telegram was sent mistakenly and he is quite alive. Either way, he finds her lying on the floor having committed suicide with the telegram in her hand, an ending Sumner describes as "a very country tragedy"

“’Love During Wartime’,” explains vocalist Hamilton Sims, “is a jab at the war and the goings on of the Bush administration. But it’s also a jab at the fact that in order for [Rice] to become the most powerful woman in the history of U.S. politics, she had to be completely desexualized to make it okay. "Francesco Baracca" è una fra le molte gemme di questo album di Sergio Endrigo mai ristampato su CD, che è anche uno dei più ricercati in assoluto, fra i suoi dischi, dai collezionisti di rarità in vinile.

Una musica dolce e quasi ipnotica, composta da Endrigo, veste il bel testo scritto a quattro mani da sua moglie Maria Giulia Bartolocci e dal fido amico di sempre, Sergio Bardotti.
Un poetico affresco dedicato agli ultimi istanti dell'esistenza terrena del celebre aviatore Francesco Baracca, consumatasi in quel fatidico 1918. Onusto di gloria, aveva solo trent'anni.

Gli Specials nel 1984, mettendo a confronto il genocidio degli ebrei d'Europa ad opera dei nazisti con lo stillicidio di morti palestinesi nei decenni (oggi ormai oltre 40 anni o addirittura 60, a seconda che si parta dal 1948 o dal 1967...) di occupazione militare israeliana, osavano dire quello che oggi non si può più dire senza essere bollati come antisemiti: "i numeri sono differenti, ma il crimine è lo stesso".

Il Parmense fu protagonista di grandi scioperi contadini e bracciantili nel maggio-giugno 1908; il disagio delle famiglie degli scioperanti fu grande e alla metà del mese di maggio fu presa una decisione per molti aspetti eroica: i bambini degli scioperanti furono inviati presso altre città, ospiti di compagni socialisti.

La canzone parte proprio da questo episodio, giungendo poi ad enunciare con notevole chiarezza i sentimenti che animavano le masse in lotta, disposte ad affrontare l'apparato repressivo dello Stato borghese tutto schierato a difesa dei padroni. Il testo è ricavato da un foglio volante stampato appunto nel 1908; la musica da una registrazione originale di Gianni Bosio e Roberto Leydi a s. Benedetto Po (Mantova) nel 1962 (informatrice: l'ex mondina Teodolinda Rabuzzi).
