Not My King

Tony Smith
Lingua: Inglese

Not my king

All British royals should go away
You belong to yesterday
We are your very equal now
No more to you will we bow

Majesty is no birth right
But a thing for which you fight
Silver spoons and blood of blue
Do not ensure such names for you
You abused your heritage
Shoring up your privilege
Taking wealth to suit your greed
From those you held in slavery

My forebears served their time
Admitting to some trivial crime
But your ancestors hopes did kill
Looting countries at your will
People starve because of you
Lying there within your view
You shrug and say it ain’t your doing
But no-one can you be fooling

People are poor because you are rich
Many are broken down and sick
Pageantry they cannot eat
It is high time for your retreat
Your wasteful parties make things worse
When you plunder the public purse
Patronise subjects never again
Citizens we republican!
The tune is a variant of a well known Jacobite song.
