Kimegyek a doberdói harctérre
András Széles
English version by Tamás Sajó, from Poemas del río Wang, the Sp... | |
ESCO AL CAMPO DI BATTAGLIA DI DOBERDO' | I GO OUT TO THE BATTLEFIELD OF DOBERDO' |
Esco al campo di battaglia di Doberdò | I go out to the battlefield of Doberdò |
guardo su al cielo stellato: | I look up on the starlit sky: |
Cielo stellato, dov’è la mia patria ungherese, | Starry sky, where is my Hungarian homeland, |
dove sta piangendo la mia dolce madre 1 per me? | where does my sweet mother cry for me? |
Dio mio, dove morirò, | My God, where will I die, |
dove si verserà il mio sangue rosso? | where will my red blood run off? |
La mia tomba sarà nel bel mezzo dell’Italia, | My tomb will be in the middle of Italy, |
mia dolce madre, ti prego di non piangere per me. | my sweet mother, I beg you not to cry. |
Consegno la mia lettera alla posta, | I give my letter to the post service, |
arriverà a casa della mia dolce madre. | my sweet mother will receive it. |
Leggila, madre mia, ho scritto la mia lettera col sangue, | Read it, mother, I wrote it with my blood |
e a Doberdò lascio la mia vita. | and I leave my life in Doberdò. |
Dolce madre mia, non scrivo più la lettera, | Sweet mother, I'm writing my letter no more, |
una palla di fucile mi ha colpito il cuore. | a gunball hit me in the heart. |
La mia tomba sono i teneri fiori del bosco, | My grave are the tender woodflowers, |
mi piangono le ragazze del villaggio. | the village girls will mourn me. |
