[1] Bulldog gravy: si potrebbe tranquillamente tradurre "pastone del cane" o "pappa del bulldog". All'epoca della Grande Depressione, era il pasto "tipico" dei minatori di carbone: una mistura di acqua, farina, lardo e fagioli (praticamente pane affogato in lardo -o strutto- e fagioli). Un toccasana per il fegato.
Attualmente tale pappone per disgraziati sembra essere diventato un "piatto tipico":
