It's Not Our War

Music and Lyrics by Rich Pulin

"On august 2nd 1964, an American ship, the USS Maddox, was allegedly attacked, by the North Vietnamese in the gulf of Tonkin.this alleged attack led president Johnson to solicit congress for a declaration of war against the North Vietnamese, which was granted. shortly thereafter, both the first army and first marine divisions (50,000 men) were sent to Viet Nam and put on active duty. Prior to this event, the United States military involvement was restricted to only military advisors. president Kennedy planned on withdrawing those advisors before he was assasinated. Years later, the captain of the uss Maddox, John J. Herrick, confessed that his ship was never attacked and that he had fabricated most of the story to cooperate with the Johnson administrations efforts to accelerate the conflict into all out war. Today's "Tonkin" is "weapons of mass destruction"...and it is these very words which serve as the administration's basis for our military being in Iraq...it has already been proven that there are no weapons of mass desruction. We need to begin withdrawing our military personnel from Iraq at once! "support our troops.......bring them home!"
(Rich Pullin)
Did we learn anything from Viet Nam
or are we making the same mistakes
sending our kids to foreign shores
and creating new heartaches
so bring them back from Iraq,
we've got to know right from wrong,
I said bring them back from Iraq,
bring them home where they belong,
'cause

It's not our war,
what are we fighting for,
it's not our war,
what are we fighting for,
it's not our war,
what are we fighting for?"

mass destruction's happening at home
right on our streets-homeless folks with rags for clothes
begging for something to eat-kids looking for love,
doing drugs, and parents that don't have time-stop feeding us lies,
let's get wise, shut the door on this crazy war,
'cause

it's not our war,
what are we fighting for,
it's not our war,
what are we fighting for,
it's not our war,
what are we fighting for?"

remember 9-11,
why's bin laden allowed to run free,
while the troops are in iraq under attack,
it doesn't make sense to me
is it all about our quest for oil
and how far we'll go to this extreme-capture osama,
end the drama,
shut the door on this crazy war, cause

it's not our war,
what are we fighting for,
it's not our war,
what are we fighting for,
it's not our war,
what are we fighting for?
