Video and song produced by IllumiNative and Taboo
Shot in the Pechanga Indian Reservation, Temeluca, California
Released on October 14, 2019, on Indigenous Peoples' Day
One World (We Are One)

Taboo from Black Eyed Peas, is from Mexican parents, but also from Shoshone heritage. He is committed to the empowerment of Native people through the music industry and advocates with this song, released that particular day, collective awareness of the common heritage for an empowered action on the world, living the values of common good they share. The production of the song is also a collective one. It follows up and consolidates a first collaboration of 2016 with more artists, including the "Magnificent 7", not credited as such but as individual artists at the time of the release: the video song was "Stand up / Stand N Rock" released to support the #No DAPL protests at Standing Rock. The name made his first appearance on the occasion of the MTV Video Music Awards in August 2017, where " Taboo & ‘Magnificent Seven’ " won an Award for their Standing Rock Song in the Best “Fight Against the System” category.

Both Canada and the US have instituted a Day to honor the Indigenous heritage, but on different days, with different names, although the states border bisect the living areas of some communities and tribes including the Mohawk (Akwesasne), the Blackfoot, the Ojibway, and others... In Canada, the National Indigenous Peoples Day takes place on the summer solstice, the longest day of the year, a choice connected to the spiritual and cultural significance that it has for many Indigenous Peoples. In the US, the Indigenous Peoples' Day is celebrated across the United States on the second Monday in October. It began as a counter-celebration held on the same day as the U.S. federal holiday of Columbus Day, which celebrate the "discovery" of the Americas and, as a matter of fact, the beginning of the colonization at the costs of the Indigenous people. If at least 14 states - and Washington D.C. - do not celebrate Columbus Day anymore and if the Biden Administration has formally recognized Indigenous Peoples Day, it is still not a federal holiday. And some states celebrate a separate but similar Native American Day. As we see, the United States of America demonstrate their diversity in celebrating a day dedicated to the Indigenous culture. And as it seems for the moment, the US aren't in the pace to institute a National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, as Canada did for the first time on September 30, 2021. So, yes, Indigenous people have to outreach the tribal affiliations, they need unified actions to gain in visibility for themselves and their legitimate aspiration to self-determination, as well as for the powerful role - given by their connection to nature - they could play in a global stake to "save" our common planet.

One World (We Are One) ! - The song lyrics focus on themes of shared humanity, collective responsibility, and the importance of working together to address global challenges.

Comments by Taboo accompanying his post of the video on YouTube:

"We can find unity in our diversity I am proud to partner IllumiNative and Mag 7 for the release of “We Are One,” a collaboration to show the richness, diversity, and beauty of Indian Country."

"Today on Indigenous Peoples' Day and every day we are here to say that We Are Still Here. Research has shown that the lack of representation of Native peoples in mainstream society creates a void that limits the understanding and knowledge that Americans have of Native communities. We are here to fight the invisibility that Natives face by amplifying contemporary, authentic Native voices, and supporting Native peoples tell their story."

"We as humans all live in this one world where we have to work and live together. Our goal is for Native peoples to be normalized in a current today and show accurate and positive representations of our people."

"About IllumiNative and Mag 7:
IllumiNative is an initiative, created and led by Natives, to challenge the negative narrative that surrounds Native communities and ensure accurate and authentic portrayals of Native communities are present in pop culture and media.
Mag 7 is a collective of seven MCs and songwriters from different tribes, who came together for hope and optimism. The members of Mag 7 are Drezus (Plains Cree tribe), Supaman (Crow tribe), PJ Vegas (Shoshone / Yaqui tribes), Kahara Hodges (Navajo tribe), Doc Native (Seminole tribe), Spencer Battiest (Seminole tribe), and Emcee One (Osage/Potawatomi tribes)."

On their website, IllumiNative define themselves as follows:

"IllumiNative is an unapologetically ambitious and innovative Native women-led organization."
"Our mission is to build power for Native peoples by amplifying contemporary Native voices, stories, and issues to advance justice, equity, and self-determination. We utilize research, narrative and culture change strategies, movement-building, and organizing to disrupt the invisibility of Native peoples, re-educate Americans, and mobilize public support for key Native issues."

One world, one people, one tribe, one tribe

What I know, what I know we are one.
What I know, what I know, no, no, no, no, no.
We are one.

It all starts with the beat.

One people, we stand all together, one voice saying: yes, we can (Change)
Each one, reach one till we pull ourselves up, cause we all want fames (Change)
From the rest to the block, to the prairie to the rock, we connect that love (Change)
Cause the people with power, full of power of the people, when we stand as (One)

I got you stuck off the realness, we be indigenous, you heard of us.
Backstepping, the murderers, spreading the love with the water, and turned into standard
Guess ain't kinda know what the purpose is.
Revive
The climate is changing
The signs of the times, times start praying.
Pray! For the world and community.
Prayers are more powerful when we're in the world.

What I know, what I know we are one.
What I know, what I know, no, no, no, no, no.
We are one.

Woke up today, hungry for a change, new path to take.
Can't stay the same, it's been too long.
Putting out who's right or wrong, can you hear me out?
All we need is a little bit of love.
Take time to heal and it starts with us.
Hand in hand, I put my trust in one world reunite, it's a must.
Hold on to hope, we can overload.
We can break the code with a single note.
Sing out for the world to hear that our time is now, no more for tears.
I looked into my son's eyes.
A new day and a new light.
Lift the violin, dwell so peaceful.
Come together, one, one, one.

What I know, what I know. We are one.
What I know. What I know, no, no, no, no, no.
We are one.

It's who you are, it's who I am.
We all bleed the same blood, yeah.
(One world, one world)
We all bleed the same blood, yeah.

We got beautiful differences.
Let me give you a peek.
Over 500 tribes, but we’re all unique.
And if we cannot compete to eat, nothing could beat us.
Jealousy is more dangerous than diabetes.
See this unity?
Imagine what it looked like.
You would think we would do whatever it took, right?
I would do anything for this good life.
We could do anything if we unite.

Come on, young native, you are my savior.
So you're praying for our inspiration.
From the block to your reservation.
Any color, hope of our nations.
From the basement, worldwide invasion.
Every day repainting our faces.
Fighting back, but learning our language.
Dancing our dances, saving our brightness.

What I know, what I know. We are one.
What I know. What I know, no, no, no, no, no.
We are one.

We only got one world.
We only got one world.
We only got one world.

All we got is one voice, one choice, one life, one love, one birth, one life to live.
One life to live, yeah.

What I know, what I know. We are one.
What I know. What I know, no, no, no, no, no.
We are one.
