Saint Levant
[Saint Levant]
21 years ago today I was born in Jerusalem. My mother had courageously made the journey out from Gaza during the start of the second Intifada, and was not able to go back home after my birth due to Israeli restrictions on movement. I slept on the floor at my grandparents’ house in the West Bank for the first month of my life. I was quite literally born in a time of chaos, despair, rage and agony. The sounds of buzzing drones live on in my memories of Gaza.
But today I am grateful. Grateful for my grandparents - Algerian, French, Serbian and Palestinian. I am grateful for my parents, who made it a point to raise me in the motherland. I am grateful for all the people who have supported me throughout my life. I love you all, and I’m excited to embark on this journey with you. [Saint Levant]
