Cartissimo Piersante, veramente un bel contributo. Ho provato a completare all'ascolto qualche parte ma ci sono ancora molti dubbi. Se qualcuno ci vuole aiutare a correggere / completare il testo, sarebbe benvenuto.
Non ho capito la parte sul doppio titolo, mi sembra che sia sempre stata pubblicata con lo stesso titolo "After We Go to Guns". Inoltre non saprei se forse sarebbe meglio attribuirla a Chester Smith, con la partecipazione di Merle Haggard.

il file originale che ho copiato dal CD (La canzone non si trova in rete e su youtube l'ho messa io) dice "gunns", dovrei ritrovare la custodia per vedere se si è trattato di un errore o se anche lì è stampata con lo stesso titolo.
Nella copia ripubblicata nella raccolta del 2004 (e che ho comprato proprio nella speranza che riportasse il testo o fosse cantata in modo più intelliggibile, ma l'incisione mi pare la stessa), il titolo riporta "guns" non c'è nessun riferimento a Smith (di nuovo, la dovrei ricercare), per cui credo che si possa attribuire a Merle Haggard. Se li ritrovo, ci guardo.
Comunque il disco è citato nella pagina di wikipedia su Chester Smith e Merle ne parla in un'intervista con Smith e in nessuno dei due il brano è attribuito a Smith. L'impressione, da quello che riesco a capire dall'intervista, è che sia stata scritta da lui in risposta alla reazione bellicosa agli attentati dell'8 settembre.

Questa canzone/preghiera fu incisa nel 2001 col titolo "After we go to guns" nel CD "California Blend" di Chester E Smith e Mele Haggard e cantata (e scritta, credo) da quest'ultimo e ripubblicata (ma mi pare la stessa registrazione) questa volta col titolo "After we go to guns" nella raccolta "Award Winning Gospel Hits" nel 2004.
E' una appassionata preghiera a Dio che illumini gli uomini a fermarsi sulla soglia della guerra.
Mi pare molto adatta ai tempi che stimo vivendo.
Il senso generale, comunque, mi pare chiaro.
