J.B. Lenoir, nato in Mississippi nel 1929, arrivò a Chicago che aveva 20 anni.
Erano gli anni di Eisenhower presidente, Nixon il suo vice, della guerra fredda e di quella calda in Corea, della caccia alle streghe e del maccartismo… “I’m in Korea” non è certo una canzone patriottica ed è pure una delle molte canzoni “inconformi” scritte da Lenoir fin da giovanissimo, grazie alle quali fu subito attenzionato dall’FBI del mastino John Edgar Hoover…
La canzone fu pubblicata sul lato A di un 45 giri. Sul lato B un’altra pietra miliare, “Eisenhower Blues”.
Il primo LP in cui il brano è incluso mi pare sia stato “Natural Man”, raccolta pubblicata 3 anni dopo la prematura scomparsa di Lenoir, avvenuta a soli 37 anni del 1967.
