The War Came Home To Me

I was a child in '72 and my sitter Mrs. Plews
Made me watch the evening news
Force-fed me her Christian views
Her son returning from the war spoke to me in metaphors..
Pulled down my pants and tried to score
I left the room and I closed that door

Shells rang out like thunder but only in my head
Hiding in my foxhole safe among the dead
Looking back I clearly see – the consequence of victory

I was too young to go overseas
So the war came home to me..

My father was in World War 2
The training left him – black and blue
But he found something he could do
While choking on – his world-view
He had a mastoid in his ear
It made it hard for him to hear
The sickness filled him up with fear
I watched him slowly... –disappear

Shells rang out like thunder but only in my head
Hiding in my foxhole safe among the dead
Looking back I clearly see the consequence of victory

I was too young to go overseas
So the war came home to me,
I was too young to go overseas
So the war came home to me...
