Vecchio odore nelle mani
Di un digiuno a fari spenti
Figlio di un ultimo ballo
Che il dolore non cancellerà

Orfani di antiche glorie
Di un’idea persa per strada
Su carriere speculate
La nostra vita non paga
Consiglieri disarmati
Dalla caduca illusione
Di celar mere parvenze
Sotto cieli di cartone

Vecchi agitatori proni
Che or del voto fate un’arte
A bestemmiar rivoluzioni
Con l’inchiostro nelle carte
Nella terra di nessuno
Nella faida che non paga
Ritorniamo nelle case
Per riprenderci la strada

Terra libera!
Nella pena che ci atterra
Terra libera!
Per pulir libera terra
Terra libera!
Camminiamo nel tormento
Terra libera!
Ancor vagando a scarpe rotte
Verso un indomani a stento
Padri di una nuova notte
Per cullar la nostra dignità

Solo è pallido è il tramonto
Di un cammino anticipato
Da un destino spinto e perso
Sopra il fondo disarmato
Di una veglia ammutinata
Costruita su parvenza
Di spacciar miseria a nobiltà

Vecchio agitatore teso
A specular parole al vento
Ad abortir promesse vane
Sopra uccelli di cemento
Nel giardino senza tempo
Di una pena che atterra
Coltiviam voli affondati
Per pulir Libera Terra

"One of the most important struggles of Peppeno’s, in the years around 1968, was that against the building of a third runway at the Punta Raisi airport. Under the leadership of the PCI (Italian Communist Party) and PSIUP (Italian Socialist Party of Proletarian Unity) a Syndicate of the Dispossessed was set up intended to safeguard the legitimate protest of the farmers who had been deprived of their primary source of income – their land. The Syndicate actually stipulated agreements for the beginning of the work at the airport: all farmers were to receive in exchange for this was more misery. One morning, facing bulldozers and the army, Peppino, the farmers and their families chose to remain in their homes to defend their rights against those who had abandoned them and the criminal speculation of the Christian-Democrat local government and PSDI (Italian Social-Democrat Party), which had ties with the mafia. Havoc ensued as old men, women and children were beaten and arrested. Many farmers, now deprived of their land, emigrated and others died in poverty – a story that unfortunately continues to repeat itself."
PUNTA RAISI

The stormy wind restlessly blows from the lungs of the earth
Upon the valley of the reversal of a hardly concealed war
Old pain in the hands of a fast with lights off
The child born of a last dance which will never mask the pain
Deprived of the ancient glories of an idea lost along the way
Our life won’t pay with speculating careers
Councillors disarmed by their fleeting illusion
Of concealing appearance under cardboard skies
You old and servile agitators who make an art of voting
Screaming about revolution with ink on your papers
In no man’s land with feuds that never pay
Let us get back to our homes and take back the streets
Free land free land
With the suffering that crushes us
Free land free land
To cleanse this free land
Free land free land
We walk in torment
Free land free land
Still wandering with our tattered shoes
Towards a future of poverty
Fathers of one last night
To cherish our dignity
Pale and alone is the setting sun of a walk anticipated
By a destiny driven and lost in the unarmed background
Of a mutinous wake based on an apparent
Meting out misery to nobleness
An old agitator intent on scattering his words to the winds
Making promises fall through – concrete birds above
In the timeless garden of the suffering that crushes us
We are growing crashed flights to cleanse the free earth
