Lyrics & Music by Kevin Miller

"After reading about the Sand Creek Massacre, and Chief Black Kettle, I wrote this song on his behalf. The lyrics are a prayer from Black Kettle to the Great One, right after the attack on his people. ..God bless the Native Americans"
Great Spirit do you know me?
Out on this buffalo plain?
I lost all my good horses
At night when the white army came..

The sky is dark it is blowing
With lightning thunder and rain
I run from the soldiers of suffering,
The guns the fire and pain.

There's blood in Sandy River.
The wind is a cry from the brave.
Great Spirit do you know me?
My brothers have gone to their grave..

Great Spirit can you hear me?
My voice calling down from the hill.
Our food and our houses were taken.
Brave women and children were killed.

The Antelope went out to greet them.
White devils all covered in blue.
The horse splashes mud on his body
The shame of a promise untrue.

There's blood in Sandy River.
The wind is a cry from the brave.
Great Spirit do you know me?
My brothers have gone to their grave..

We travelled in this cold dark cloud.
Do we peacefully sleep here again?
Great Spirit do you know me?
Our women children and men

There's blood in Sandy River.
The wind is a cry from the brave.
Great Spirit do you know me?
My brothers have gone to their grave..
