My name is Nadin. I was born in Syria.
The INS threw my family in jail.
I was taken from my bed at gunpoint.
They didn't give my mother time to dress.

The months went by slowly. I cried every night.
My mother had to beg for water.
I didn't know if I would die from hunger or from cold.
Yes, we are Arab, but our country now is here.

We are not terrorists. We are your neighbors.
We are your co-workers, your classmates, and your friends.
We are here for the same reasons your ancestors came.
We are Americans the same as you.

My name is Wildia. I am a Haitian.
I have a cousin serving in Iraq.
I came to this country for refuge, for freedom.
I didn't come to kill, hurt or steal.

But now I have been locked up for so long.
I want to know, what is my crime?
They say it's for national security,
that I am denied justice and freedom.

Chorus

My name is Mako. When I was five years old,
the FBI came and knocked on our door.
We became prisoners of war, held behind barbed wire,
though we were citizens of the USA.

It was 60 years ago, in 1942,
and only now are people taking note.
We must stand together to protect our basic rights.
We cannot and will not be silent.

Chorus

My name is Misha. I am a survivor.
Sometimes I wish I could forget.
I and my family were taken from our home
on a train to a camp called Dachau.

I was the enemy, but I never understood
why the Germans were afraid of me.
I speak for all the children I knew who did not live.
These times now remind me of the past.

Chorus
