L'ondata di violenza che investì la Giamaica nella seconda metà degli anni '70 può essere considerata una vera e propria guerra civile. Nel 1972 il People's National Party (PNP) di Michael Manley salì al potere e inaugurò una politica di stampo socialista e progressista, accompagnato però da scelte poco felici che portarono il paese ad una profonda crisi economica. Lo scontro politico tra socialismo e anticomunismo arrivò a fare fino a 200 morti al giorno nelle strade di Kingston. Max Romeo, che aveva sostenuto il PNP con la canzone Let the Power Fall prende qui posizione contro questa spirale di violenza. Prodotto dal grande Lee "Scratch" Perry, l'intero album è considerato un capolavoro della musica reggae.
