When the sun come back,
When the firs' quail call,
Then the time is come
Foller the drinkin' gou'd.
Foller the drinkin' gou'd,
Foller the drinkin' gou'd;
For the ole man say,
"Foller the drinkin' gou'd."
The riva's bank am a very good road,
The dead trees show the way,
Lef' foot, peg foot goin' on,
Foller the drinkin' gou'd.
Foller the drinkin' gou'd,
Foller the drinkin' gou'd;
For the ole man say,
"Foller the drinkin' gou'd."
The riva ends a-tween two hills,
Foller the drinkin' gou'd;
'Nuther riva on the other side
Follers the drinkin' gou'd.
Foller the drinkin' gou'd,
Foller the drinkin' gou'd;
For the ole man say,
"Foller the drinkin' gou'd."
Wha the little riva
Meet the grea' big un,
The ole man waits--
Foller the drinkin' gou'd.
When the firs' quail call,
Then the time is come
Foller the drinkin' gou'd.
Foller the drinkin' gou'd,
Foller the drinkin' gou'd;
For the ole man say,
"Foller the drinkin' gou'd."
The riva's bank am a very good road,

FOLLOW THE DRINKING GOURD - RICHIE HAVENS
Follow the drinking gourd,
Follow the drinking gourd,
For the old man is coming just to carry to freedom ,
Follow the drinking gourd.
When the sun comes back and the first quail calls,
Follow the drinking gourd,
For the old man is waiting just to carry to freedom,
Follow the drinking gourd.
Follow the drinking gourd,
Follow the drinking gourd,
For the old man is waiting to carry to freedom,
Follow the drinking gourd.
When the river bank makes a mighty good road,
Dead trees will show you the way.
Left foot, peg foot, travelin' on,
Follow the drinking gourd.
Follow the drinking gourd,
Follow the drinking gourd,
For the old man is waiting to carry to freedom,
Follow the drinking gourd.
When the river ends between two hills,
Follow the drinking gourd,
There's another river on the other side,
Follow the drinking gourd.
Follow the drinking gourd,
Follow the drinking gourd,
For the old man is waiting to carry you to freedom,
Follow the drinking gourd.
Well,when the great big river meets the little river,
Follow the drinking gourd,
For the old man is waiting to carry you to freedom,
Follow the drinking gourd.
Follow the drinking gourd,
Follow the drinking gourd,
For the old man is waiting to carry you to freedom,
Follow the drinking gourd.
For the old man is waiting just to carry you to freedom,
If you follow the drinking gourd.
