| |
Tänään jaksan nousta seisomaan, | Today, I can stand up again, |
tänään jaksan itseäni katsoa, | today, I can look at myself. |
en tarvitse enää peilejä, | No longer will I need mirrors |
en haarniskaa, joka kulkua vaikeuttaa. | nor a hampering armor. |
| |
Tänään aion lähteä maailmaan, | Today, I'm going to set out for the world |
tänään tietäni kulkemaan, | to walk my own paths. |
eivät riitä enää maalaukset, | Paintings are no longer enough, |
tahdon nähdä mitä on niiden takana. | I want to see what's behind them. |
| |
Jäähyväiset valheille, | Farewell to lies |
joihin uskottiin, | we believed in, |
jäähyväiset puheille, | farewell to words |
joilla synnit sovitettiin. | we used to atone for our sins. |

| |
Kuten lintu on luotu lentämään, | Just like a bird is created for flying |
on ihminen luotu onneen, | a human being is created for happiness. |
kun ei pelkää itseään, | Once you stop being afraid of yourself |
ei pelkää myöskään elää elämää. | you stop being afraid of living your life. |

Maailma on salaisuuksia täynnä, | The world is full of secrets, |
joka hetkessä asuu ikuisuus, | eternity dwells in every moment, |
joka kadulla asuu ihminen | in every street dwells a human being |
sisällään sanoja tuntemattomia. | full of unknown words. |
| |
Jäähyväiset laeille, | Farewell to laws |
joihin maailma kahlittiin, | used to restrain the world, |
jäähyväiset rajoille, | farewell to borders |
joita liikaa pystytettiin. | of which there are too many. |
| |
Jäähyväiset aseille, | Farewell to arms |
joilla elämää suojellaan, | used to protect life, |
jäähyväiset aseille, | farewell to arms |
joilla elämää tuhotaan. | used to destroy life. |
| |
Tänään jaksan nousta seisomaan, | Today, I can stand up again, |
tänään lähden maailmaan | today, I'll set out for the world |
omaa tietäni kulkemaan, | to walk my own paths, |
tahdon nähdä, mitä on seinien takana. | to see what's behind the walls. |
| |
Tänään aloitan laulamaan, | Today, I'll start singing, |
tänään soitellen sotaan, | today, I'll bring a knife to a gunfight |
soitellen sotaan, jossa ei tarvitse | in order not to have to |
ketään vahingoittaa. | harm anyone. |
| |

A Farewell to Arms
His golden locks Time hath to silver turn’d;
O Time too swift, O swiftness never ceasing!
His youth ’gainst time and age hath ever spurn’d,
But spurn’d in vain; youth waneth by increasing:
Beauty, strength, youth, are flowers but fading seen;
Duty, faith, love, are roots, and ever green.
His helmet now shall make a hive for bees;
And, lovers’ sonnets turn’d to holy psalms,
A man-at-arms must now serve on his knees,
And feed on prayers, which are Age his alms:
But though from court to cottage he depart,
His Saint is sure of his unspotted heart.
And when he saddest sits in homely cell,
He’ll teach his swains this carol for a song,—
‘Blest be the hearts that wish my sovereign well,
Curst be the souls that think her any wrong.’
Goddess, allow this agèd man his right
To be your beadsman now that was your knight.
