| LE COLLINE SPEZZATE THE BROKEN HILLS It’s here. Unforeseeable, not a sign. Or, possibly, it was an obscure and quiet sign. Like all wars do, don’t they? How do I know? But now it’s here, it slowly swept over everyone. Our world war. The human being is an army, The Other, an invisible foe, internal, Nested in another human being. We’re each other’s enemy. Till now my generation had seen, at the most, 45% of world population afflicted by a war, and that was no small feat. This is my world war, It couldn’t be any different. Inside and outside, total war. No boundary, ideology, race, religion, etnicity. Nothing but ourselves and the damage inside and outside. Nothing but the corner this war had set for us: Before and after, for the ones who’ll still be around. The shelter is at a gruelling site: A tiny home. The distance, the loneliness, The fragility of our eating dirt, The gratitude for these days, every single day, Solidarity rediscoverd (for how long?) With the ones suffering, because we suffer, With the fear of the fearful, because we are scared With the frailty of the ones feeling they can’t make it. Because down at the broken hills we are defenseless. Everything changes in an istant, It could be love or pain Yet the landscape gets transformed. Now the past, the present, the future Become an even more fearsome and uncharted territory. So, This war is a mirror. |
