BRUKSHOTELLETBRUKSHOTELLET

Hon står där, på verandan, som så många gånger förr,She's standing there on the porch, like so many times before,
och ser hur Solen sänker sej mot vattnet.and sees how the Sun sinks on the water.
Hon öppnar båda dörrarna och släpper in den brisShe opens both the doors and lets in the breeze
som svalkar och förebådar natten.which cools and anticipates the night.
Hotellet ligger öde sen många långa år.The hotel is deserted for many long years.
She closes her eyes and thinks about how it was yesterday.
At night the memories come which she willingly urges forth.
Då drömmer hon sej bort och börja nynna:Then she dreams herself away and begins to hum:

»Dansa, dansa, du som är ung, i afton är du röd.
Dance, dance, you who are young, in the evening you are red.
Bjud upp, mitt barn, ge hals och sjung. I morrn kan du va död.Invite my children to dance and sing. Tomorrow you can be dead.
The Gods need you now, tonight you have a price.
I gryningen kan allt va slut. Dom leker med ditt liv.«In the dawn everything can be finished. They play with your life."
Hon tänker på den tiden, innan bruket lades ner,She thinks about the time, before the factory was closed down,
då arbetarna kom för lördagsdansen.when the workers came for the Saturday dances.
Då brännvinsglasen gnistrade av hundra tända ljus,Then the whisky glasses glittered of a hundred lit lights,
och jäntorna var där från hela trakten.and the girls were there from the whole neighborhood.
Hur hon gick där hela kvällen mellan borden och såg tillHow she went there all night between the tables, and saw to it
att gästerna fick mat och dryck och inte ilskna till.that the guests got food and drink and no anger.
She knew them so well, when she told them to be quiet.
Det va som hon vore deras mamma. It was like she was their mother.

Så kom den bittra stunden, förbannelsens minut,Then the bitter moment came of the curse,
då brukspatronen våldtog hela trakten.when the industrialist raped the whole area.
Dom stod där, vid fabriken, när maskinerna bars ut.They stood there, by the factory when the machines wore out
They stood there the whole day and half the night.
Så tystna hennes tempel, och ljusen blåstes ut,So quiet her sanctuary, and the lights were blown out,
och folket drevs ifrån den plats där jobben tagit slut.and the people were driven from the place where the jobs had ended.
But now and then, when the summer wind caresses like tonight,
så står hon där och nynnar på sin visa.so she stands there and hums her song.
