[1] Serhildan é una parola composta da ser e da hildan che in kurmanci significano rispettivamente testa e alzare, cioè insurrezione, disobbedienza civile. Il significato principale del verbo hildan é raccogliere , in seconda istanza alzare.Ad esempio si dice “alaya hildan” per “alzare, montare la bandiera”.
[2] Berxwedana equivale a Resistenza
[3] Peshmerga equivale a combattente, resistente. Oggi con tale nome si designano le forze armate della regione autonoma del Kurdistan in Iraq. E’ una parola composta da pêş e marg / مرگ. La prima in kurmanci vuol dire “di fronte a”, la seconda in farsi vuol dire morte. Il termine fu coniato a metà del secolo scorso. Riportiamo un sunto dell’aneddoto sulla sua genesi tratto da KDPI, Kurdistan, 1 (Gennaio 1971).
"Qazi, il presidente della breve Repubblica di Mehabad, formò un comitato di letterati e scrittori per creare dei termini curdi per l’uso tra i militari. Il primo termine per cui occorreva trovare un equivalente curdo era "serbaz", la parola persiana per soldato. Ne seguirono molte proposte tutte andate a vuoto. Esausti e frustrati, ordinarono del tè.
