PIOSENKA O PORCELANIE | SONG ON PORCELAIN |
| |
Różowe moje spodeczki, | Rose-colored cup and saucer, |
Kwieciste filiżanki, | Flowery demitasses: |
Leżące na brzegu rzeczki | You lie beside the river |
Tam kędy przeszły tanki. | Where an armored column passes. |
Wietrzyk nad wami polata, | Winds from across the meadow |
Puchy z pierzyny roni, | Sprinkle the banks with down; |
Na czarny ślad opada | A torn apple tree’s shadow |
Złamanej cień jabłoni. | Falls on the muddy path; |
Ziemia, gdzie spojrzysz, zasłana | The ground everywhere is strewn |
Bryzgami kruchej piany. | With bits of brittle froth– |
Niczego mi proszę pana | Of all things broken and lost |
Tak nie żal jak porcelany. | Porcelain troubles me most. |
| |
Zaledwie wstanie jutrzenka | Before the first red tones |
Ponad widnokrąg płaski | Begin to warm the sky |
Słychać gdzie ziemia stęka | The earth wakes up, and moans. |
Maleńkich spodeczków trzaski. | It is the small sad cry |
Sny majstrów drogocenne, | Of cups and saucers cracking, |
Pióra zamarzłych łabędzi | The masters’ precious dream |
Idą w ruczaje podziemne | Of roses, of mowers raking, |
I żadnej o nich pamięci. | And shepherds on the lawn. |
Więc ledwo zerwę się z rana | The black underground stream |
Mijam to zadumany. | Swallows the frozen swan. |
Niczego mi proszę pana | This morning, as I walked past, |
Tak nie żal jak porcelany. | The porcelain troubled me most. |
| |
Równina do brzegu słońca | The blackened plain spreads out |
Miazgą skorupek pokryta. | To where the horizon blurs |
Ich warstwa rześko chrupiąca | In a litter of handle and spout, |
Pod mymi butami zgrzyta. | A lively pulp that stirs |
O świecidełka wy płone | And crunches under my feet. |
Co radowałyście barwą | Pretty useless foam: |
Teraz ach zaplamione | Your stained colors are sweet, |
Brzydką zakrzepłą farbą. | Splattered in dirty waves |
Leżą na świeżych kurhanach | Flecking the fresh black loam |
Uszka i denka i dzbany. | In the mounds of these new graves. |
Niczego mi proszę pana | In sorrow and pain and cost, |
Tak nie żal jak porcelany. | Sir, porcelain troubles me most. |
