LULLABYE OF A TRANSPORT TO POLANDNINNA NANNA DEL TRASPORTO POLACCO
Sleep, little friend, you are so tired,
The train is singing its monotonous song,
The night creeps softly in.
You are still small, and still find rest,
Let your dear eyes close,
We’re going now to Poland.
Dormi, piccolo amico, sei così stanco,
il treno intona il suo monotono canto
la notte arriva di soppiatto.
Sei ancora piccolo e trovi pace ancora,
chiudi gli occhi tuoi cari,
si va via in Polonia ora.
Sleep, little child, we’re already so far,
Ah, long sunken in darkness
our home, stolen from us.
We held it dear, it was taken away,
Now we sit here silently, and find no words
and travel far — to Poland.
Dormi, piccino, siamo già così distanti.
Ah, da tanto nel buio è sparita
la patria rubata.
L’abbiamo amata, ce l’hanno sottratta,
e ora sediamo muti e ci mancano le parole
e andiamo lontano – in Polonia.
Sleep, little friend, I’ll watch over you,
From your sweet rest I wish
to find comfort and strength for myself.
The stars are shining bright and pure,
I no longer want to be sad,
God is in Poland too.
Dormi, piccolo amico, ti guardo
e mi consola e mi conforta la tua dolce pace.
Luminose e pure risplendono le stelle,
non voglio rattristarmi più a lungo.
Dio c’è anche in Polonia.
