EMIGRATION SONGCHANT DE L'ÉMIGRATION
The northbound trains
promised a chance of redemption
to the reconstruction army
whose sunburnt backs had know
the cold sweat of factories
On the foreign cities pavements
angels and devils played dice
for my people's souls
but when they turned the light off
with their empty tears as friends
they were alone against everyone
and longed for their return.
Les trains du Nord
promettaient une chance
à l'armée de la reconstruction
dont les dos brûlés par le soleil avaient connu
les sueurs froides des usines.
Sur les pavés des villes étrangères
anges et démons jouaient aux dés
les âmes de mon peuple.
mais quand ils éteignaient
ils étaient seuls contre tous
avec pour amies, leurs larmes amères,
ils aspiraient au retour.
He came
across the ocean
now he works in a restaurant
once he went to the station
with a case full of hope
when he heard my grandpa's story
he smiled with thoughts of home
and his return
was a great joy.
LA CHANSON DE L'ÉMIGRANT

Mon père avait un train
et une terre où aller
au nord se trouvait
une gare qui l'attendait.

Et il partit, on était en mai
Avec l'armée de la faim,
il emporta l'effort
et une vie de sueur.

Et les nuits étaient longues
Et les jours à décompter
Étranger était son nom
Sienne, sa volonté de revenir.

Ali avait un train
et une terre où aller
au nord se trouvait
une gare qui l'attendait.

Et il partit, on était en mai
Avec l'armée de la faim,
il emporta l'effort
et une vie de sueur.
