MONTE CALVARIO | MOUNT CALVARY |
| |
Intanto il mattino arriva veloce | Meanwhile the morning comes quickly |
e Cristo che corre con tutta la croce | and here's Christ running and bearing the cross. |
morire e risorgere in otto ore appena | He's to die and rise again in no more than eight hours: |
| before supper time, on Mount Calvary he's paid his salary. |
| |
Intanto la sera arriva pesante | Meanwhile the evening comes wearily |
e Cristo ritorna alla casa distante, | and Christ comes back to his distant home. |
la testa sul piatto, gli apostoli stanchi | With his head leaning on the plate while the tired apostles |
| look absently at him, he's eating the leftovers of the last supper. |
| |
E intanto il mattino ritorna veloce | Meanwhile the morning comes again quickly |
e Cristo si sveglia, riprende la croce | and Christ rises up and takes his cross again, |
migliaia di cristi che vanno al lavoro | thousands of Christs are going to work |
per farsi ammazzare, e pregano in coro per Dio pendolare. | to get themselves killed, and are praying in choir a commuting God. |
| |
E quando la sera lo schiodano e scende, | And when, the evening, he's unnailed and let down, |
un sorso d'aceto e lui si riprende, | he drinks a drop of vinegar and feels a bit better. |
per oggi il salario è a un pesce e due pani | Today's salary is one fish and two loaves of bread, |
| he greets the guards with his bleeding hands and tells them “See ya tomorrow”. |
| |
si veste, è uno straccio, corona di spine | he gets dressed, feels like a wet rag with his crown of thorns. |
arriva in ritardo assieme a un ladrone | He arrives late together with a thief, and the boss tells him: |
| “You must observe the working hours regulation of Mount Calvary.” |
| |
Arriva la sera e appena staccato | Then the evening comes, and as soon as he's taken off |
lui va nell'ufficio di Ponzio Pilato | he goes into the office of Pontius Pilatus. |
il capo gli mostra il contratto in scadenza | The boss shows him his contract soon to expire |
| in the next months or so, due to competition of Chinese christs. |
| |
Ritorna il mattino di un giorno di festa | Then the morning comes again on a holiday, |
ma Cristo s'è messo la corona in testa | but Christ wears his crown of thorns on his head. |
a Monte Calvario fa presto ritorno | He goes quickly back to Mount Calvary, |
| it's a megastore mall now, so there's extra shift today. |
| |
Arriva al lavoro e lo inchiodano in fretta | He arrives to work and is nailed in haste, |
ma solo alle mani, dispone la ditta, | but only in his hands, as provided by the company. |
che qua da qualche mese riduce le spese | Since a number of months expenses must be reduced, |
perché costa troppo inchiodare anche i piedi, risparmiano i chiodi. | nailing feet is too expensive, so nails must be economized. |
| |
Finisce anche questa giornata di merda | So this fuckin' shit day also comes to end, |
lo calano a terra legato a una corda | he's tied with a rope and let down to ground. |
sarà licenziato perché ha fatto un torto | He's going to be fired because he's wronged |
| Pontius Pilatus, and after he's died he's never risen again. |
