Forse qualche anziano ancora ricorda	Some old people maybe still remember

Le truppe tedesche sui colli Sabini	The German troops on Sabine hills
battevano la ritirata	were beating a retreat

E grazie alla loro fatica	And thanks to their hard toil

quel tragitto dagli ordigni nascosti	from mines buried in the ground,
ma il destino vigliacco attendeva in agguato.	but cruel fate was lying in wait.
Infatti una mina più elaborata,	In fact, a more powerful mine
preparata da sapienti mani assassine	worked out by crafty murder’s hands
