(1) in altre versioni la tromba diventa un corno, strumento per lo più ad uso "bellico" e come richiamo, essendo il suo suono udibile sulle lunghe distanze. Ma è anche un corno magico che suscita il desiderio in chi lo sente.
(2) come per il mantello in Tam Lin anche qui la coperta copre il pudore della donna e viene soffiata o gettata via = deflorazione
(3) kist dall'inglese antico kiste -kista nel senso di contenitore sia scatola, baule che bara o sarcofago (in senso archeologico cista) ma anche petto, qui tradotto come grembo, la tromba o il corno dell'elfo nel grembo della fanciulla, più esplicito di così..
4) è l'elfo a irretire la fanciulla con la promessa di matrimonio
(5) "wantin' corn" può stare a significare un seme che si vorrebbe avere ma che non è in nostro possesso e quindi la richiesta impossibile è che si semini senza seme
