Il 1 maggio del 1945 i nazisti accettarono di trasferire il ghetto/campo di concentramento di ‎Theresienstadt alla Croce Rossa. Una settimana più tardi fu liberato dalle truppe sovietiche.‎

Dopo una sfilza di poesie e canzoni tristissime sull’Olocausto, sono felice di poterne contribuire una ‎sulla liberazione, sulla fine dell’incubo più terribile che l’essere umano sia mai riuscito a produrre ‎contro i suoi simili…‎
Byl máj

a všechno kvetlo do něho
Modrá vřetánka bezů
odvíjela vůni
prudce se táhla do kraje
a každý hmatal volnost
jako slepec tvář druhého
která mu drahá je

Byl máj

Haluze rozvěsily
praporky svých květů
opilé včely hledaly svůj úl
Ta hořká léta přešla
Jarní vítr
poslední bolest
z hrudi vyvanul

Byl máj
a všechno kvetlo do svobody

MAI 1945‎

Es war Mai.‎

Und alle Blüten erschlossen sich ihm: ‎
Blaue Fliederspindeln ‎
Spulten ihren Duft ab. ‎
Schwer wallte er über das Land. ‎
Und jeder konnte die Freiheit greifen ‎
Wie ein Blinder ‎
Das Antlitz eines Menschen, ‎
Der ihm teuer ist. ‎
‎ ‎
Es war Mai.‎

Zweige hatten Plaggen gehisst ‎
Aus Blüten.‎
Trunkene Bienen suchten ihren Stock. ‎
Die bitteren Jahre waren vorbei. ‎
Frühlingswind ‎
Verwehte letzten Schmerz ‎
Aus der Brust.‎

Es war Mai ‎
Und alles erblühte zur Freiheit. ‎

MAY 1945‎

It was May!‎

And all the blossoms opened;‎
blue swords of lilac wafted their fragrance.‎
The power of May assumed command;‎
everyone could touch freedom
like a blind person touching the face
of someone dear to him.‎

It was May!‎

Branches had hoisted flags
of blossoming buds.‎
Drunken bees flew around,‎
searching for their hives.‎
The bitter years were over.‎
The winds of spring
blew the last pain from our breast.‎

It was May!‎
And freedom blossomed everywhere!‎
