Andorra

The tiny state of Andorra in the Pyrenees set aside ill defense budget of $4,90 for the current fiscal year--so that blank eart ridges could be purchased and fired on ceremonial occasions.
I want to go to Andorra Andorra Andorra
I want to go to Andorra
It's the land that I adore
They spend four dollars and ninety cents
On armanents and their defence
Did you ever see such confidence
Andorra hip hooray

In the mountains of the Pyrenees there's an independent state
Population five thousand - I think they're simply great
It's only a few square miles around but that's the place for me
They spend less than five dollars on armaments so this I've got to see

I want to go to Andorra Andorra Andorra
I want to go to Andorra
It's the land that I adore
They spend four dollars and ninety cents
On armanents and their defence
Did you ever see such confidence
Andorra hip hooray

It's governed by a council, all gentle souls and wise,
Spent only five dollars on armaments, and the rest on cakes and pies.
They didn't invest in tommyguns or a plane to sweep the sky.
But they bought some blanks for cap pistols to shoot on their 4th of July!

I want to go to Andorra Andorra Andorra
I want to go to Andorra
It's the land that I adore
They spend four dollars and ninety cents
On armanents and their defence
Did you ever see such confidence
Andorra hip hooray

They live by the arts of farm and field, and by making shoes and hats;
They haven't got room in their tiny land for a horde of diplomats.
They haven't got room in their tiny land for armies to march about;
And if anyone comes with a war budget, they throw the rascals out.

I want to go to Andorra Andorra Andorra
I want to go to Andorra
It's the land that I adore
They spend four dollars and ninety cents
On armanents and their defence
Did you ever see such confidence
Andorra hip hooray

There are no superhighways there, for where would the highways go?
They just slide down the Pyrenees whenever it starts to snow,
And when the springtime comes around, they love to sing and play,
And if anyone comes with a war budget, they holler, "Go away!"

I wandered clown by the Pentagon this newspaper clipping in hand
I said, "I want to see everyone in McNamara’s band."
I said, "Look what they did in Andorra, they put us all to shame.
The least is first, the biggest is last, Let’s get there just the same."

I want to go to Andorra Andorra Andorra
I want to go to Andorra
It's the land that I adore
They spend four dollars and ninety cents
On armanents and their defence
Did you ever see such confidence
Andorra hip hooray

The general said, "My dear boy, you just don’t understand.
We need these things to feel secure in our great and wealthy land."
I said, "If security’s what you need I’ll buy a couch for you,
A headshrinker is cheaper and quicker and a damn site safer too."

Verses by Iain MacKintosh & Hamish Imlach, adapted to UK
So I went down to Westminster my newspaper in hand
I spoke to every member of Maggie Thatcher's band
I said, See what they've done in Andorra they put us all to shame
If they can do it so can we, we`ll get there just the same

But the general said, My dear boy you just don't understand
We need these things to feel secure in our great and glorious land
I said, If security's what you need I'll buy a couch for you
A psychiatrist is cheaper and a damn sight safer too

VAL SHENSON sends along these additional verses for "Andorra", which appeared in BROADSIDE # 5:
(from Broadside # 6, maggio 1962)
One day a councilman rose to say, "I think we're behind the times,
we ought to increase the war budget by at least a couple of dimes"
but the c.n.v. said "no siree, you keep to the figure set
or you'll surely ruin the economy and swell the nation debt

I want to go to Andorra Andorra Andorra
I want to go to Andorra
It’s the land that I adore
They spend four dollars and ninety cents
on armaments and their defense
did you ever see such confidence
Andorra hip hooray

and the people paraded around the square, to the sound of fife and drum
and the council finally had to vote to stick to the given sum.
and no whenever a visiting king comes 'round and they fire a grand salute,
they shoot away half of the war budget, and nobody gives ,a hoot.

I want to go to Andorra Andorra Andorra
I want to go to Andorra
it's the land that I adore
they spend four dollars and ninety cents
on armaments and their defense
did you ever see such confidence
Andorra hip hooray

ANDORRA

Voglio andare a Andorra Andorra Andorra
voglio andare a Andorra
quel paese io lo adoro
spendono quattro dollari e novanta cents

cinquemila abitanti – credo sian semplicemente grandi

Voglio andare a Andorra Andorra Andorra
voglio andare a Andorra
quel paese io lo adoro
spendono quattro dollari e novanta cents

Voglio andare a Andorra Andorra Andorra
voglio andare a Andorra
quel paese io lo adoro
spendono quattro dollari e novanta cents

Vivono lavorando i campi e fabbricando scarpe e cappelli ;
non c’è spazio nel loro paesello per eserciti da far marciare ;

Voglio andare a Andorra Andorra Andorra
voglio andare a Andorra
quel paese io lo adoro
spendono quattro dollari e novanta cents

Me ne andavo tutto allegro vicino al Pentangono, brandendo quel giornale,

Voglio andare a Andorra Andorra Andorra
voglio andare a Andorra
quel paese io lo adoro
spendono quattro dollari e novanta cents

bonic, petit i fredolic.

bonic, petit i fredolic.

bonic, petit i fredolic.
