Delias could be considered representative of that sub-proletariat, a group in society power -less against the forces of Capitalism, which were overwhelming it. Its only refuge at that time (1922-1940) seemed to be escape from life’s pain. For Delias the escape was heroin, and, ultimately, death. And if he represents the fringe-dwellers or ‘outcasts’ of society that Damianakos describes, then part of his image will always then be that of the underdog, the perennial victim. Considering how much of recent Greek politics has been perceived to have been played out, Delias’ tragedy is remarkably consonant with his societies, even long after, or rather, especially after, his death.

SBRONZA E SBALLO [1]

[3] στην πένα , letteralmente “nella penna”.

DRUNKENNESS AND TRIP

Once I enter the opium den, I grab the hookah
I smoke with all my heart, until it's over
I smoke with all my heart, until it's over
Once I enter the opium den, I grab the hookah

I said to the owner of the den to refill it
But unlucky me there was no more hashish left
But unlucky me there was no more hashish left
I said to the owner of the den to refill it

I go out of the den, I enter a tavern
I drink two glasses of wine
I drink two glasses of wine
I go out of the den, I enter a tavern

Even if I became drunk and crazy and I left the tavern
On the way back to my home, I was feeling really good
On the way back to my home, I was feeling really good
Even if I became drunk and crazy and I left the tavern.
