si en well,
si en mal,
si en bad, si en very bad?

Juran los que te matan
que eres feliz... ¿Será verdad?
Arde tu frente pálida,
la anemia en tu mirada logra un brillo fatal;
masticas una jerigonza
medio española, medio slang;
de un empujón te hundieron en Corea,
sin que supieras por quién ibas a pelear,
si en yes,
si en sí,
si en bien,
si en well,
si en mal,
si en bad, si en very bad?

Ay, yo bien conozco a tu enemigo,
el mismo que tenemos por acá,
socio en la sangre y el azúcar,
socio asociado en sociedad:
United States and Puerto Rico
es decir New York City with San Juan,
Manhattan y Borinquén, soga y cuello,
apenas nada más...
No yes,
no sí,
no bien,
no well,
sí mal,
sí bad, sí very bad!‎

CANZONE PORTORICANA

Come stai, Portorico,
da socio associato in società?
Sotto alberi di cocco e chitarre,
al chiar di luna e in riva al mare
che bell'onore andare a braccetto,
a braccetto dello Zio Sam!
In quale lingua mi capisci,
in che lingua insomma ti posso parlare,
dicendo “yes”
o dicendo “sì”,
dicendo “bene”
o dicendo “well”,
dicendo “male”
o dicendo “bad, very bad?”

Quelli che ti ammazzano, giurano
che sei felice...ma sarà vero?
Brucia la tua fronte pallida,
nel tuo sguardo anemico brilla un lampo fatale;
mastichi un gergo strano
mezzo spagnolo e mezzo in slang;
con uno spintone ti sbatterono in Corea
senza sapere per chi andavi a combattere,
e se dire “yes”
o dire “sì”,
se dire “bene”
o se dire “well”,
se dire “male”
o se dire “bad, very bad”...

Eh, lo conosco bene il tuo nemico,
è lo stesso che ci abbiamo qua,
socio nel sangue e nello zucchero,
socio associato in società:
United States and Portorico,
come dire, New York with San Juan,
Manhattan e Borinquén, corda e collo,
tutto qui...
Niente yes,
niente sì,
niente bene,
niente well
però, sì, male,
sì, bad, very bad!

Just a pair of words from translator. I have endeavored to translate this song by catching the spirit of the original. That's a song where the mixed language spoken by Puerto Ricans is seen as lack of identity, or rather, as a token of identity and culture robbery. That's the same danger Cubans had to face when their country was in the same condition as Puerto Rico, before the 1959 revolution.
PUERTO RICO SONG

How d'ya feel, Puerto Rico,
as an associated associate in society?
Between coconuts and guitars,
under the moonshine by the seashore,
what a great honor walking arm in arm,
arm in arm with Uncle Sam!
In what language can you understand me,
what language should I speak to you,
should I say yes
or say sí,
should I say bien
or say well,
should I say mal
or say bad, very bad?

Your killers swear
you are happy...is it really true?
Your pale face is burning with fever,
a fatal flash shines in your anemic look;
you stammer sort of lingo
half Spanish, half slang;
you were pushed into Korea
without even knowing who you'd fight for...
if you'd say yes
or you'd say sí,
if you'd say bien
or you'd say well,
if you'd say mal
or you'd say bad, very bad...

Gosh, I know well your enemy,
he's the same we've to face here,
an associate in blood and sugar,
an associated associate in society;
United States y Puerto Rico,
that is, NYC junto with San Juan,
Manhattan y Borinquén, rope and neck,
and that's all...
No yes,
no sí,
‎no bien,
no well,
but that's mal,
yes mal, very mal!
