ἡ δὲ χελιχελώνη, παρθένων ἐστὶν ἡ παιδιά, παρόμοιόν τι ἔχουσα τῇ χύτρᾳ· ἡ μὲν γὰρ κάθηται καὶ καλεῖται χελώνη, αἱ δὲ περιτρέχουσιν ἀνερωτῶσαι·
ἡ δὲ ἀποκρίνεται
εἶτ᾿ ἐκεῖναι πάλιν ἐκβοῶσιν
ἡ δέ φησι
Chelichelona autem virginum lusus est, simile quippiam cum olla habentes: hæc enim residet, & testudo dicitur: hæ vero circumcursitantes interrogant:
Illa vero respondet:
Deinde hæc rursum:
Illa vero dicit:
C'è poi la “Tàrtaru-Tartaruga”, un gioco di bambine un po' simile a quello della pentola: infatti una sta a sedere, e viene detta “tartaruga”, mentre le altre le stanno attorno chiedendole corricchiando:
E lei risponde:
Le altre, di nuovo:
E lei alla fine dice:
Xελιχελώνα, τί ποιεῖς ἐν τῷ μέσῳ;
ἡ δὲ ἀποκρίνεται
ἔρια μαρύομαι καὶ κρόκαν Μιλάσιαν.
εἶτ᾿ ἐκεῖναι πάλιν ἐκβοῶσιν
ὁ δ᾿ ἔκγονός τευ τί ποιῶν ἀπώλετο;
ἡ δέ φησι
λευκᾶν ἀφ᾿ ἵππων εἰς θάλασσαν ἅλατο.

Balzò nel mare da bianche cavalle.
[1] Vale a dire una stoffa nello stile di quelle provenienti dalla città di Mileto, nell'Asia Minore, celebri in tutta l'antichità greca. Le stoffe di Mileto sono citate anche nel Simposio di Platone.
