Josef Tarrak-Petrussen also known as Tarrak (which means shadow in Greenlandic) was born in 1998 in Nanortalik, Greenland to a Greenlandic mother and a Moroccan father.
Tarrak is a Greenlandic rapper and he exclusively raps in his mother tongue Greenlandic (Kalaallisut).
He released his first album in 2016, ”FxGxS”, which is an acronym for “Free God Stand”. The first single from the album, Tupilak, was a huge success in Greenland and overseas.
Tarrak has been touring both in Greenland and other countries from 2017 and released his second album, Josef Tarrak, in 2019.
The album is a conceptual autobiographical album consisting of 10 songs and 8 sketches. The story behind the album is based on his own upbringing with added socio-political topics which are current at the moment in the Greenlandic community.
The album was staged as a theatre work at the cultural house in Nuuk (Katuaq) in early September 2019 directed by the renowned Greenlandic director Pipaluk K. Jørgensen.
Besides his musical career, Tarrak founded a company around production and filming of music videos called Tarrak Productions. From 2017 the company has produced 13 videos and is in preproduction with a number of other projects.
Tarrak has received the KODA talent prize (2017) and the Greenlandic Government Encouragement Award (2017).
