SHAUN SCHAEFER

Drums and Percussion

Shaun’s love for drums began at the tender age of 11 when his sister became the first field percussionist in the Milford High School Marching Band. With that, Shaun decided to enroll in the 6th grade school band. However, the band director wanted Shaun to play Trombone of all instruments. After a ton of begging, Shaun was finally allowed to be in the percussion section. After a couple of years honing his skills in the school band, Shaun was asked to be in a rock band by some kid named Bryan Billhimer. A long lasting friendship and partnership was born. Throughout high school, Shaun continued to play in every school band possible, winning many awards for his percussion skills. At night however, Shaun and Bryan were playing at local clubs and bars in the Cincinnati area. During this time, Shaun shared the stage with Big Brother and The Holding Company (Janis Joplin’s band), and national country act Frazier River. However it was a small recording session with Cincinnati legend Brian Lovely that changed Shaun’s life. Lovely introduced Shaun to Matt Senatore, who was looking for a drummer and guitarist to play in his band, 3 Time Loser. Turns out that Senatore was actually a producer named “Emosia,” the award winning producer for Blessid Union of Souls. Being in 3 Time Loser allowed Shaun the opportunity to meet and hang with the guys from Blessid Union, eventually leading to recording sessions with the band. And with that…a relationship was born. Shaun graduated from The College Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati shortly before getting a call from the Blessid camp in December of 2001. After months of rehearsing and playing together in a cramped rehearsal space, Shaun and Bryan finally became a part of the “Blessid Union,” playing their first show in Columbus Ohio on May 1st 2002. Shaun continues his tenure as the drummer/percussionist for Blessid Union of Souls working on his 6th year of service for the band.
