The Soldiers Marched for Peace

Lyrics and music by Brendan Ashton
'This song came from hearing about post traumatic stress and interviews with soldiers who after coming back from the war did not feel appreciated. People have the tendency of saying it's their fault they knew what they were getting into when they joined the army. But I don't believe many of them thought they were political tools following the whims of George Bush and Tony Blair. I don't know I might be wrong. Who is ultimately responsible for starting wars, I don't think it is soldiers.' (Brendan Ashton)

"I was having a conversation one night with someone who expressed their frustration with the fact that the generation which had kicked up hell at the time of Vietnam appeared to have little to say about the invasion of Iraq, the dismantling of the Health Service, the renewal of the Trident nuclear submarines, the erosion of civil liberties and habeus corpus, and the million and one other issues confronting us now. And I thought about just how many of my generation seemed to have gone to sleep round about 1979 and not woken up again yet." (Dick Gaughan)

Dublin City 1913 (Ballad of Larkin and Connolly)
[1963]
Lyrics by Donagh and Niall MacDonagh

(continua)

When I wrote this song, I dedicated it to the men and women of Umkhonto We Sizwe, ('Spear of the Nation', mentioned in the song) the armed wing of the African National Congress.

A Pickaxe and a Stone
[1969]

Prima registrazione nota: Jimmy Yates & His Boll Weevils, 1929.

"This song seems to have been adapted to fit almost every war in existence. It is fitting, though, that it apparently comes from World War I -- the stupidest, most wasteful conflict of them all."

Canzone léviane – L'enterrement d'Alberto – Marco Valdo M.I. – 2009

United States Of Eurasia/Collateral Damage

United States Of Eurasia/Collateral Damage
Album: "The Resistance" (2009)

The name comes from the book "The Grand Chessboard" by Zbigniew Brzeziński, who puts forward the view that Eurasia must be controlled by the USA to secure oil supplies.

In addition, it draws influence from "Nineteen Eighty-Four" by George Orwell in which Eurasia arbitrarily changes between ally and enemy of Big Brother country Oceania. This is where the idiom "We have always been at war with Eurasia/Eastasia" came from, typically employed in response to the most obvious political uses of the exposure effect to convince a populace that a ruling figure or party said or did the opposite of that which was in fact actually said or done.

Matt said, "Musically this is influenced by Ravel, Tchaikovsky and 1970s song writing/string arrangements. The ending features Chopin's 'Nocturne, Op. 9, No. 2' with sound effects evoking innocence and then the military, towards... (continua)

The Ballad Of Crispus Attucks

The Ballad Of Crispus Attucks
[1988]
Album "Steppin' Out"
Lyrics by Mike Glick

5 civili furono colpiti a morte.

Hero's Death (Roamin' Jack)

anonimo
Hero's Death (Roamin' Jack)
(1861–1865)

("We told him that he'd come back dead if he joined those boys in blue", che potrebbe anche indicare che questa era la versione... (continua)
