The thing is that while Vysotski published a more 'correct' version (in accordance with the Russian strict norms of prosody), he himself sang a more meaningful, but less formally structured one:
the official version says

Children always feel vexed
With their age mode of life,
And we fought down to scratces,
To deadly insults.

He knew this version was stupid: although eager to be of age, kids are not vexed with their age and status in life (they are too busy solving their specific problems). It's a myth of the aged.
Besides, "fought till scratches"? Do silly scratches have anything to do with deadly insults? Not black eyes, nor bruises - scratches, for a boy? Does he have to fight to have ones? Who insults others because of a scratch is not worth a song, is he?
It definitely was not what Vysotski wanted to express, that's why he sang, in various combinations, nevertheless something meaning

Album: Axis Of Evil

"A people who will persevere in war beyond a certain limit ought to know the consequences". – General William Tecumseh Sherman

When you have been hurt bad enough, and you will be, then you will be ready to strike back....and you will!

Ultimately, failing to respond to violence with appropriate force today only leads to greater violence later. There can never be any such thing as "moderation" in war.

(continua)

Holiday In Cambodia

Holiday In Cambodia
Bellissima traduzione complimenti!

Lyrics by Paolo Donadoni
Music by Graziano Nardini
Album: "Fino alla fine"

In guerra diventa facile uccidere.

She came to Pittsburgh at the age of 26 in 1907. Graduate of Vassar with a Masters from Columbia University, she graduated second in her class at NYU Law School. Hired initially for two months by Paul Kellogg of the Pittsburgh Survey, she stayed more than a year investigating in depth and in detail the industrial accidents that occurred in Allegheny County during 1906-07.

(continua)

Follow the Drinking Gourd

Follow the Drinking Gourd
Follow the Drinking Gourd

(continua)

Here We Go Again
[2003]
Lyrics & Music by Ethan Miller
Album: Rainy Day Record

This song was written at the beginning of the U.S. invasion of Iraq, as a lament for the onset of yet another cycle of suffering. It is about the "other" history of America, and of empires and nation-states in general – the painful history that lies beneath the romantic stories about freedom and liberty, patriotism, and "how noble it is to die for one’s country." The true heroes of history are those who fought not for God, Glory or Nation, but for peace, justice, and the dignity of all.

Child of A Fallen Soldier

[2005]
Album: Little Time/Somebody Over There

When I first started writing the songs for the SOMEBODY OVER THERE album, our conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan were very much a different story from what's happening now. Other than the soldiers of the 507th, whom we all got to know quite well, there weren't a lot of casualties. What we heard about in letters from "over there" was that the weather was too hot, there was never enough of anything to go around and tours of duty seemed to stretch on forever. Loved ones on both ends missed each other dearly.

Now, with the insurgency, hardly a day goes by we don't lose somebody over there. I felt that SOMEBODY OVER THERE should tell that part of the story also. I decided I wanted to tell it from the point of view of a child losing a parent, and to make the narrative make sense, I needed the soldier and the child to be of opposite sex. For the father-soldier/daughter... (continua)
