A kötet 161 írást tartalmaz ismert és ismeretlen szerzőktől. Németországban több recenzió is megjelent a könyvről, amelyekben Primo Levivel, Elie Wiesellel és Kertész Imrével együtt, az ismert szerzők közt sorolják fel a szombathelyi születésű Eugén Heimlert is.

Both awed the audience, both were unheard by the rulers. Litterateur Granin described his childhood in the city blocked by nazy troops during WWII. 20 months of courage and high moral in the siege. Russian historian received a standing ovation from the German Parliament, tears in their eyes. Because they learned the truth from the other side for the first time.
Although the song about their fathers was translatеd into many languages for its sincerity.

Ode an die Freude
200 anni dopo la 9 sinfonia.
Ho visto e vi consiglio questo bel documentario che attraverso la musica di Beethoven analizza le guerre e l' umanità di oggi attraverso interviste a musicisti, direttori d' orchestra,filosofi, compositrici. C'è ovviamente l'esecuzione di Bernstein nel 1989 a Berlino.
Il regista canadese Larry Weinsthein nel finale del documentario introduce anche il suo lutto per la sorella e il cognato uccisi da Hamas il 7 ottobre. Lo fa senza nessuna accusa al popolo palestinese anzi è la politica israeliana che viene criticata.

Mon ami Lucien l’âne, voici une chanson qui a à peu près 500 ans – un demi-millénaire et qui comme son titre l’indique raconte « La Guerre ».
Certes oui, mais laquelle ?, demande Lucien l’âne. Toute une guerre, ça fait beaucoup, quand même.
Tu as raison, Lucien l’âne. Elle s’intitule « La Guerre », mais elle raconte un bataille : celle de Marignan (1515) qui fit des milliers de morts en deux jours et qui bouleversa l’histoire de son temps ; au moins pour ce qui est des Suisses, qui signèrent avec la France un traité de « Paix perpétuelle » et qui depuis ne se sont plus mêlés de guerre – du moins, en direct. Comme elle est dans un français de son époque, elle paraît étrange aux gens de notre temps ; même si, c’était un rap de cette fin du Moyen-Âge.... (continuer)

In Bretagna, la poesia è stata musicata anche dall'amico Gerard Delahaye nel 2001, precisamente nel disco "Guillou pour les intimes". Nell'occasione mi permetto di chiedere: ma perché attribuirla a Léo Ferré quando Rimbaud ha una sua sezione come autore? Oltretutto Ferré in Francia non è stato nemmeno il primo ad interpretarla (credo fosse Yves Montand nel '51 o '52) e probabilmente non è neanche autore della musica...

La terribile foto all'inizio dell'introduzione - qui nella sua interezza - non si riferisce al massacro di Babij Jar del settembre 1941 ma fu scattata l'anno seguente, nei pressi di Ivangorod, sempre in Ucraina.

Zyame Telesin fu un fine letterato di cultura yiddish e poeta del Novecento apprezzato non soltanto in Unione Sovietica. L’unica sua opera reperibile online è un libro di poesie in yiddish pubblicato nel 1980. Purtroppo non abbiamo potuto trovare alcuna traduzione delle sue poesie in rete.
Viene citato nei saggi che trattano del rapporto tra cultura russa e cultura yiddish e nelle monografie di letteratura degli anni ’60.
Zyame Telesin (15 luglio 1909 -1996)
Nacque a Kalinkovitsh (Kalinkavičy), Polesia, Bielorussia, nella casa di un fabbro. Nel 1929 si trasferì a Mosca, dove studiò nella facoltà yiddish della Seconda Università statale di Mosca. Negli anni 1931-1940, pubblicò poesie in Shtern / Stella e Oktyabr / Ottobre, tra le altre riviste, a Minsk.

There are quite a large number of English translation of the poem Babi Yar. The one of Robin Milner-Gulland , currently Emeritus Professor of Russian and East European Studies, was maybe the first carried out by an authoritative scholar. Another early translator of the poem was the Irish poet George Ravey, Russian-born on mother side; his work has been included in these pages.
The translation of Benjamin Okopnik is maybe the most famous and valued among the insiders. We have a soft spot for the work of A.Z. Foreman, great knowledge of Russian and Semitic linguistics and, what matters most, of the jewish culture.

Non avendo trovato in rete, per parecchio tempo, le traduzioni in italiano delle poesie di Evtušenko costitutive dei Movimenti della sinfonia, a parte ovviamente la prima, ho ritenuto di dovere colmare la lacuna traducendole tutte. Ho preso a riferimento i testi di Valeria Vlazinskaya confrontandoli, per quanto mi è stato possibile, con altre traduzioni autorevoli e sbirciando il testo russo, munito dei conforti di qualche dizionario e note occasionali.
Mi corre l’obbligo di precisare, a scanso di equivoci, che il mio inglese non va al di là del livello medio e che la mia conoscenza di russo si aggira, si e no, su una cinquantina di vocaboli e nessun verbo. Per cui l’impegno è stato piuttosto rilevante.
Le parti cantate dalla voce solista sono impostate con il rientro a destra.
Ultima precisazione. Ho dedicato anche non poco tempo per individuare pitture e disegni dell’Olocausto,... (continuer)

I greatly respect Olof Palme also for his social visions and for the way he tried to put them into practice in a given historical period. Every statesman is likely to be controversial, and certainly not even Olof Palme escapes this characteristic. Moreover, I am not talking about the "Swedish myth" which was very fashionable in those years. No country has been, is and will never be heaven on earth. Sweden (as evidenced by many songs included in this site) was full of social struggles aimed at enemies, like the great Capital and subordinated conservatism, which vere clearly identifiable. Rather obviously, all this provoked a reaction. On February 28, 1986 the reaction had its result. Many, too many years have passed.
