Da "Quel lungo treno" (2005)
Il "lungo treno" che dà il titolo all'ultimo album di Massimo Bubola sembrerebbe rimandare ad uno dei tòpos più comuni del folk e del blues americano; si tratta invece di un titolo tutto italiano, tratto da un canto degli alpini.

"Quel lungo treno" è un album dedicato alla Prima Guerra Mondiale, nel novantesimo anniversario dell'ingresso dell'Italia nel conflitto, un album concept, come si diceva negli anni '70. Bubola riprende canti della tradizione popolare veneta: alcuni famosi (Era una notte che pioveva e Monte Canino) e altri meno noti: Il Disertore (o "Ero povero ma disertore"), Ponte de Priula e Adio Ronco, riarrangiati in chiave country o addirittura tex-mex.
Nel libretto, molto curato, tutte le canzoni sono tradotte in inglese da Tim Parks.

Richie Havens ha costruito sul palco di Woodstock uno dei momenti significativi del festival, di quelli che restano come punti fermi nella memoria di quell'evento. La sua "Freedom" resta una delle canzoni più emblematiche del festival. [...] Richie Havens, forse anche per il ritardo di altri, dovuto al caos che si era creato sulla stada che portava a Bethel, dove effettivamente si svolse il festival, fu il primo ad affrontare i cinquecentomila della platea, che probabilmente non erano ancora tutti, e a provare comunque il brivido che trasmetteva. Havens definì quella sensazione un "incidente cosmico". La sua "Freedom" (improvvisata sullo standard Motherless Child, sembra perché Havens aveva finito le canzoni del suo repertorio ma continuava ad essere richiamato sul palco dal pubblico), che innescò la prima scintilla fra il palco e la sterminata platea di Woodstock, risente... The song is about the old communist USSR and East Germany (the video was shot near the Berlin Wall in Germany) and how people were not free to do as they pleased. It's not about a particular person, just a general fictional story about how difficult it would be in those days for a Western man to be in love with a woman from the communist side of the world
