FRIZULLO

The wine-colored night belched out one ship more
Loaded with Kurds, a floating wreck (as one says) out of the sea
A ship desperate with the very usual desperation,
Sailing from Turkey and bound for an illusion.
On one side was carved, or scratched a mysterious graffito,
"Frizullo", said: a name, a warning or anything else...
What does all this mean? A god? A tribune? An accusation?
On one side of that ship, a reason? An excusation?

What does still shine out of the bottom without return,
What does hold us standing, what does hold us wandering
Rippling with seafoam someone's trying to breathe
Sentinel in the bilge, whereof will the day break out?

"Frizullo" is no word in the forbidden language,
It is no magic spell, nor any hard challenge
"Frizullo" is a misspelt name, or, rather, a family name,
It stands for "Dino Frisullo", so to say: handle with care!
We are his friends, his brothers, his favs, his children,
We're Frisullo's people, so draw in your claws
And let us all pass by and so much for the butcher!
Life is a struggle, Dino gives us a helping hand

Sentinel, pale and pensive in the middle of grey smoke
There's something sewing senses, making calls, challenging
But if you lend an ear, everything's crying here,
And laughing while you're sleeping away the death in the afternoon

Dino Frisullo was an activist of "Workers Vanguard",
When 68 was over, the struggle was let drop.
Counterorder, comrades, we don't change the world any longer,
Please change your clothes and stay on the bottom.
But, on the bottom, Dino Fisullo stumbled on conscience
As on a primed bomb, a future of resistance
And he founded merged spread several associations,
What for? To save the world, just think he was so stubborn…

Sentinel, this house leaks water and is half in ruins,
The carpets are getting mouldy, I feel all this so stupid
There's music in every bar, but there's no note moving,
The anchorwoman announces the evening's programs…

Dino Frisullo supported all migrants, he was always there.
He was arrested in Turkey, sentenced though not guilty.
His innocence was a weapon, it was no comfort at all,
And when he was set free, got back to the trench with his name.
That's why the Kurds wrote it on one side of that ship,
"Frizullo", "Ferozillo", so to mean: safe protection.
Cancer was taking his life away in a flash,
Yet he looked scared as for some mishap

There's still a ship in Brindisi the black sea hasn't swallowed yet,
That darkness hasn't taken yet with its firm steps.
From there someone is pointing his eyes to darkness
Sentinel, o sentinel, where have we got in the night?
Sentinel, tell me where we have got in the night.
FRIZULLO
