C'ERA UNA VOLTAOnce Upon a Time

C'era una volta, occhi miei [*1], e or non c'è più [*2]Once upon a time, my dear,
una bella e nobile signora, fatemi dire. [*3]There was a beautiful lady queen,
Awaiting her lord night and day.

Un sabato sera, o tu che ascolti [*4], o una domenicaAnd on a Saturday evening, my precious, on a Sunday,
implora, o tu che ascolti, il sole e la luna:She pleads with the sun, my precious, she pleads with the moon :
"Sole mio, illuminalo, e anche tu, mia luna,"My sun, shine on him, my moon,
andate a parlargli, ve ne sarò grata."Go and talk to him, for the love of me."

Va navigando per i mari, o tu che ascolti,He wanders and sails, my precious, across the high seas,
falcidiando i pirati, o tu che ascolti, annientandoliHe mows down the pirates, my precious, and unmakes them.
nel sole, con la luna e con la pioggiaUnder the sun, the moon and the rain
mentre a me mi lascia sola e abbandonata. And he leaves me all alone.

Una galea navigava, occhi miei, col vento del nord,A galley sailed, my dear, with the north wind,
And launched itself into battle, my dear, into fight.
ho visto il fuoco bruciare e uccidere.I saw fire burning and killing.
