The Holidays Are Here (And We're Still At War). Perché in guerra ci siamo sempre tutti quanti.

[CCG Staff]

AWS NUMBER 6000

So, here we are: the AWS nr 6000 is in. It took a little more time than usual to reach this goal, as nr 5000 was included past January. These latest thousand AWS's, however, are among the most important ever included; in addition to this, our website has undergone a gradual transformation from a site only concerned with lyrics, translations, songfacts and commentaries into a true interactive site, f.ex. by allowing download of mp3's and videoclips. This is the "tecnical" side of our website; but as for the other and most important side, the only thing to be said is maybe what Brett Dennen expressed in his beautiful song: The Holidays Are Here (And We're Still At War). That's because we all are still at war. So, for this AWS 6000 page, we've considered to offer a series of satyrical cartoons, both from Italy and other countries, that can make us laugh bitterly, from Vauro to the irresistible covers of the Leghornese satyrical (and very, very irrespectful) magazine "Il Vernacoliere", from Ellekappa to the magnificent historic cartoons by Italy's greatest antimilitarist cartoonist, Giuseppe Scalarini (1873-1948), who worked for the Socialist daily newspaper "Avanti!" and was severely persecuted by the Fascist regime. But this is, and will remain, an (inter)active page giving anyone free possibility of proposing and including other cartoons.

There's one cartoon in particular that deserves to be pointed out. It's the cartoon you see below. Anonymous and without words as it is, it expresses maybe better than any other thing what this website really is. A true symbol of our AWS Website. [AWS Staff]
