A true classic from the Seventies we culpably forgot until now...
A song that intended to teach mutual understanding between those, who had experienced the world war II hell (the father's hell) and those, who were just experiencing the Vietnam war hell (the children's hell). But, unfortunatedly enough and despite of Graham Nash's most beautiful song, the childrens' generations are constantly sent to the war hell by their fathers. And the story's going on...

(Riccardo Venturi)

Nash, who is also a photographer and collector of photographs, has stated in an interview that the immediate inspiration for the song came from a famous photograph by Diane Arbus, "Child with Toy Hand Grenade in Central Park." The image, which depicts a child with an angry expression holding the toy weapon, prompted Nash to reflect on the societal implications of messages given to children about war and other issues
You who are on the road
Must have a code that you can live by
And so become yourself
Because the past is just a good-bye.
Teach your children well,
Their father's hell did slowly go by,
And feed them on your dreams
The one they picks, the one you'll know by.
Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you, you will cry,
So just look at them and sigh
and know they love you.

And you, of tender years,
Can't know the fears that your elders grew by,
And so please help them with your youth,
They seek the truth before they can die.

Teach your parents well,
Their children's hell will slowly go by,
And feed them on your dreams
The one they picks, the one you'll know by.

Don't you ever ask them why, if they told you, you will cry,
So just look at them and sigh and know they love you.

E allora guardali e basta, e sospira,

And you (Can you hear and), of tender years (do you care and),
Can't know the fears (Can’t you see we) that your elders grew by (must be free to)
And so please help (Teach your children) them with your youth (what you believe in),
They seek the truth (Make a world that) before they can die (we can live in).

E voi, in tenera età,

(“Riuscite a sentire?

We consider the original Crosby/Stills/Nash/Young song to be anti-war, albeit subtle ("their father's hell did slowly go by"). All we did was to drag it 30 years forward... from one quagmire to another. If we can somehow influence just one person not to join the military, or to avoid the impending draft, we will chalk that up as a success. Those who view war as somehow being noble or glorious must have discovered a way to block the truth from their minds. Don't fall for the media hype, or the sanitized bylines from embedded reporters... War is indeed Hell. -Compassionate Conservatives.

"The pioneers of a warless world are the youth that refuse military service." -- Albert Einstein
TEACH YOUR CHILDREN (PRE-EMPTIVE EMPIRE)

Music based upon "Teach Your Children" (© 1970 Crosby/Stills/Nash/Young)
Lyrics by The Compassionate Conservatives
Original release Mar-2004

You who are on the fence,
It makes no sense
For re-election
'Cause Bush
And the neo-cons
Let war go on
Without reflection...

Teach your children well
Keep them from hell
Where children can die
Don't give them monkey suits
Or guns to shoot
Don't kiss them goodbye

If you ask the White House why
They want to send your kids to die
They'll just look at you and lie...

(Pre-emptive Empire)

And now
It's been three years
That we've lived in fear
In this war on terror
And as they frisk you at the gate
You cry out "Wait,
There's been some error..."

Teach your children well
Keep them from hell
Where children can die
Don't give them monkey suits
Or guns to shoot
Don't kiss them goodbye

If you ask the White House why
They want to send your kids to die
They'll just look at you and lie...

Ciao a tutti.

"Teach your parents well,
Their children's hell will slowly go by"
