CINQUEMILA VOLTE NO.

FIVE THOUSAND TIMES NO. ART AGAINST WAR.
THE SLEEP OF REASON PRODUCES MONSTERS
With this page, CCG/AWS reach number five thousand. As usual for thousands (and this is a very special thousand indeed), we've thought to prepare a "special page": this time, as conceived by our webmaster Lorenzo Masetti, we've chosen to call for witness a form of art other than music, painting. Many artists of all times have shown their opposition to war, to militarism, to totalitarisms, to the violence of states and financial castes, by painting or drawing images, both concrete and abstract; we propose you some. If they want, collaborators and users of our website may leave a message.
Among the artists forming this "special page", there's Francisco Goya. Just the one who inscribed in one of his most famous drawings a phrase expriming in the very best way also the nature of war. "El sueño de la razón produce monstruos", the sleep of reason produces monsters. Monsters and victims. Thousands of victims. Hundred thousands of victims. Millions of victims. Millions of lives lost in the name of madness, of longing for power and money, of foolishness disguised in bombastic, yet stupid words. "Fatherland", "Honor", "Virtue" and so on. Always distrust those who say them. You should use what is probably the best weapon in this case: laugh. "Among those dressed for parade, those dressed for laugh are lost" (
Francesco Guccini).
Five thousand times no through this poor site, that originated with a free and collective contribution of antiwar songs to a couple of newsgroups and mailing lists in the outskirts of the Empire, and then continued and developed by a bunch of unknown people. Five thousand songs going to become five thousand and one with next song, and so forth. Every day. That's no use. No song ever stopped a war, that's what even some antiwar songs say. But behind any song, there's someone who wrote it, anyway, and who wanted to tell us something. From the best known author up to the unkown man in the street. We'll keep on collecting all the voices saying no, from all countries, in all languages, from all times.
Refusing as we are any form of "celebration", we let this time painted images speak. That's because any work speaks, be it in music or figurative. It speaks and leaves a clear and unmistakable message. The works we've selected for this page aren't and can't be that many, for obvious reasons; but we'd like they could stimulate you to search for other works of this kind and, why not, to build an "Antiwar Art" website. With a deep and grateful thank from all our heart to everyone who helped us, and who will hopefully help us on.

CINQ MILLE FOIS NON.
