"The lyrics to this classic Yiddish folk tune exhort a cruel wind to blow destructively through the shtetl, the small town that formed the beachhead of traditional Jewish life in Eastern Europe. The wind is a metaphor for the constraints placed on Jewish idealism by the systemic oppression of the Czar’s government." (www.circle.org)

און פֿאַריאָגט זיי פֿאָרט;

avinterlid

D'INVERNO, o CANZONE D'INVERNO,
o DIVERTITEVI, DIVERTITEVI, VENTACCI

Divertitevi, divertitevi, ventacci,
Dominate il mondo come volete.
Spezzate i rami, abbattete gli alberi,
Fate quel che vi piace.

Spingete via gli uccellini dai campi
E cacciateli via;

Divertitevi, divertitevi, ventacci,
Ora è il vostro tempo.
A lungo durerà l'inverno,
L'estate è ancora lontana!

Nota. "Participants on the 2014 Helix Project take advantage of wonderful acoustics in the 17th-century Great Synagogue of Grodno, Belarus to sing "Beyze Vintn," (Evil Winds), words by Litvak poet Avrom Reyzen, music by Mikhl Gelbart. Recorded July 2014." Il testo è stato riarrangiato graficamente.
[HOWL, HOWL, RAGING WINDS]

Howl, howl, raging winds!
Rule the world without restraints!
Smash the branches, hurl the trees.
Do whatever you will.

Drive the birds from the field
And chase them away.
Those that can't fly
Kill at once.

Tear the shutters from the houses,
Smash the windowpanes.
If somewhere a candle burns in darkness,
Extinguish it with rage.

Howl, howl, raging winds!
Now your time has come.
Winter will last a long time.
Summer is still far off.

Nota.
HAVE FUN, EVIL WINDS

Have fun, evil winds,
Rule the world freely!
Break the branches, tear down the trees,
Do as you please.

Drive the birds away from the fields
And chase them away;
Those who cannot fly far enough,
Kill them on the spot.

Tear the shutters from the houses,
Break the window panes,
If a light burns in a dark place,
Extinguish it with rage.

Have fun, evil winds,
Now is your time.
Winter will last a long time,
Summer is still far off.

Versione inglese da circle.org

Nota. [RV]
WAILING, WAILING WINDS OF EVIL

Wailing, wailing winds of evil,
Play upon the land.
Fell the trees and break the branches
By your raging hand.

Roust the birds from quiet meadows,
let them seek to fly.
If a wing is weak or broken,
Crush them as they try.

Wailing, wailing winds of evil,
Though your time is nigh,
Winter will not keep the light
Of summer from the sky.

AMUSEZ-VOUS, VENTS MAUVAIS

Amusez-vous, vents mauvais,
Dominez le monde librement!
Cassez les branches, abattez les arbres,
Faites ce qu'il vous plaît.

Chassez les oiseaux des champs
Et poursuivez-les;
Ceux qui ne peuvent voler loin,
Tuez-les sur le champ.

Arrachez les volets des maisons,
Cassez les vitres;

Altra pagina radicalmente rifatta.
