Heikki Salo (born Nov. 9, 1957) is a Finnish singer-songwriter and co-founder of Miljoonasade, a band popular in Finland in the 80s and 90s. His best known song is this one of the Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin, the first human to journey into outer space in 1961.

A tribute to Yuri Gagarin (1934 - 1968), the first man in outer space and a celebrated hero who suffered a tragic death in a training jet crash. [JR]

Juri

Un tributo a Jurij Gagarin che accogliamo volentieri dopo quelli, già presenti, di Claudio Baglioni (Gagarin, da una poesia di Evgenij Evtušenko) e della Banda Bassotti(Juri Gagarin). [CCG/AWS Staff]
Miltä tähdet tuoksuu?
Entä luinen kuu?
Soiko maapallon liikkeessä
fuuga hiljainen?

Miltä Afrikka näyttää?
Heiluuko Suomen lanteet
vai onko tänne
pilvet pesineet?

Lennä Juri Gagarin,
lennä Juri Gagarin.
Tule elävänä takaisin

Näetkö laukausten juovat kun ne
maailmaa rikki neuloo
ja ihmiset häpeilee
viattomuuttaan?

Näetkö rahan liikkeen?
Näetkö minne se menee?
Aselastit vaihtaa
omistajaa.

Lennä Juri Gagarin,
lennä Juri Gagarin.
Tule elävänä takaisin

Näetkö minun katseeni sieltä?
Vielä se on lämmin.
Näetkö rakastavaiset
kaupungin päällä?

Ja kun kuulokkeet laitat korviin
ja väännät volyymin kymppiin,
kuuletko lapsien
syntyvän täällä?

Lennä Juri Gagarin,
lennä Juri Gagarin.
Tule elävänä takaisin

FLY ON JURI GAGARIN

What do the stars smell like?
Do they feel like ivory?
Has planet Earth sung
the song of silence?

First you dance with Africa.
Then see wasted Finland.
Or do you sail the clouds,
clouds, the oceans?

Fly on Juri Gagarin
fly on Juri Gagarin
keep the promise running, keep it alive

Can you see the missiles
melted to their targets?
Can you see us ashamed
of our innocence?

Can you see the money flow?
Where does it go?
Can you see the traders
of defence?

Fly on Juri Gagarin
fly on Juri Gagarin
keep the promise running, keep it alive

Can you see me smiling at you?
I'm still here waiting.
Can you see lovers
wait for the new year?

And when you wear your headphones
and turn up the volume,
can you hear how children
are born down here?

Fly on Juri Gagarin
fly on Juri Gagarin
keep the promise running, keep it alive

TO A CHILDHOOD HERO

lapsuudenHow do the stars smell?
Or the bony Moon?
Can you hear the Earth moving
like a silent fugue?

How does Africa look like?
Do the hips of Finland swing
or are they covered
with clouds?

Fly on, Yuri Gagarin,
fly on, Yuri Gagarin.
Come back alive.

Can you see the tracer bullets
stitching the Earth
and people being ashamed
of their innocence?

Can you see the money moving?
Can you see where it goes
when cargo loads of weapons
change hands?

Fly on, Yuri Gagarin,
fly on, Yuri Gagarin.
Come back alive.

Can you see the look in my eyes from there?
The look that's still warm.
Can you see the lovers
over cities?

And when you put on your headphones
and turn the volume to ten,
can you hear children
being born here?

Fly on, Yuri Gagarin,
fly on, Yuri Gagarin.
Come back alive.
