Gaspare Palmieri, detto "Gappa".

Mio fratello trascina i passi, cammina lento su quel corridoio
Mio fratello racconta favole senza morale

Mio fratello combatte ogni giorno

E me ne frego di chi mi dice

Certe volte fa confusione
Tra presente, futuro e passato
Mio fratello è andato fuori una sera
e non è più tornato.

MY BROTHER

My brother has grown in a nest
on the deadest branch of the oak in the park
My brother is hidden in the ditches
among the roots like a leopard
My brother drags his steps, walks slowly in that passage
I can see his look behind the bars and I die a bit inside
My brother has set fire to an office
riding a dragon's tail
my brother has shot at a shadow
with his wood-and-string rifle
My brother has lost his job and failed to meet expectations
a lively kid punished by bad mistresses
My brothers tells tales without a moral
declares he has won the first world war
I am none who has never sinned
but a bit more tact would be good
when I hear someone say
your brother is just a bit crazy

My brother walks on the roof
reads Fabrizio's gospel
my brother struggles every day
against a prejudice
My brother writes at night but no one calls him a poet
some days I think he's rude, some days ascetic

My brother's already got a pension at forty
he's so candid that he's still waiting for revolution
I listen to him and let him explain to me
when he tells me about the big plot
and I don't give damn if someone
tells me my brother is crazy

My brother smokes one packet every 3 hours
he has the nerve to still believe in a better world
sometimes he makes confusion
between present future and past
My brother has got out one evening
and has never come back.
