Title track di questo che è di certo uno degli album fondamentali della musica reggae, prodotto e marchiato a fuoco da Lee "Scratch" Perry nel suo studio Black Ark a Kingston, Giamaica.
Una canzone che è considerata gemella di War Ina Babylon di Max Romeo, sempre prodotta dal mostro sacro Perry.
Per quel che riguarda l'interpretazione del testo mi limito a rinviare prima di tutto alla copertina del disco:
... ma sarebbe troppo semplice. Perry e Murvin - e i Clash che riproposero il brano nel loro disco d'esordio del 1977 - non erano qualunquisti che facevano di ogni erba un fascio... E infatti:
"Tutti i crimini commessi giorno dopo giorno nessuno prova a interromperne la spirale in nessun modo (perchè) coloro che dovrebbero garantire la pace dichiarano la guerra..."
Ed è così che dopo giorni di bugie e di reticenze, che hanno causato la reazione rabbiosa e violenta di tanti giovani, i "peacemakers" di Cameron hanno finalmente ammesso che Mark Duggan, ucciso dalla polizia lo scorso 5 agosto a Tottenham, non sparò contro gli agenti. Si tratta quindi di un assassinio, l'ennesimo dopo quelli di Jean Charles de Menezes (2005) e di Ian Tomlinson (2009), ad opera di peacemakers, tutori dell'ordine che dovrebbero proteggere e servire e invece ammazzano, come in guerra...
